TOM PIC DOING OKAY/ME BACK FROM MD
First, as of Oct 9th, Tom's wife Michelle posted that Tom was resting comfortably back in his house and joking around and doing pretty well considering the travails he's experienced. Chemo and radiation are forthcominig and he'll be taking a new medication that is known to double survival rates for folks who've suffered the same sorts of tumors. Thank God and keep prying and knocking on wood! This is the best news imaginable.
As for me, I got back in FL two nights ago. Has all the ghostly funny business in my mother's house continued to remain absent? Well, I'm not sure. The 2nd nite I was there I was sleeping in my old room as usual--on a newly purchased areobed 'cos the original air mattress I bought popped. Sometime in the middle of the night, I got up to pee--as is my wont several times a night cuz I drink diet Coke all day long plus I'm on a diuretic, but before I could step out of the room I heard a distinct knocking sound on the wall. Like someone knocking on a door, only it didn't come from downstairs where the friggin front door is, it came from the stairwell which is on the other side of the knocked on wall. Probably a dream fragment or imagination via grogginess but this sound was so resolute and disturbing that I simply said fuck it and hauled all my stuff--aerobed and all, immediately downstairs while nearly relieving my bladder in my shorts, and resolved to NEVER sleep upstairs in that house again. I re-established my "camp" in the dining room (actually, now that I think of it, about 15 feet from where my father died in 1986!) but noticed nothing untoward for the rest of my stay. Hopefully I will only have to return there one more time--again, knock on wood--because on Thursday--via something called Docusign--I signed the sales contract for the house while sitting on the smoker's bench at Tampa Airport (my realtor had gotten the offer the day previous). So, with any luck, my mother's house will have a new owner as of November 15, unless the house fails either a plumbing and heating and ac inspection, a termite inspection, and a radon test which it should. All i have left to do is have a new stovetop installed (which I ordered a few days ago) and fix a toilet chain, then I'm done! It as a great house and a great area to grow up in but I live in Florida now and that's where I wanna stay! No more cold.
Right now I'm watching, I think it's called, American Horror House on Chiller Channel, and it's pretty good (and MOrgan Fairchild is in it and she still LOOKS pretty good!) I love creepy house movies and this cuts the muster. While in MD I bought Barricade, which had great back cover copy but didn't really go anywhere (I think it was produced by WWE; perhaps they should stick with wrestling and forgo further cinematic ventures!) And speaking of Creepy House movies, did anyone see Michael Liamo's novel-based flick Dead Souls? I caught it on Chiller last night and it really rocked. Check it out if you haven't.
I hope all is well with all of you, my friends, and have a great weekend (or what's left of it!) It looks like I'm actually gonna be able to start some writing tomorrow!
Later! Edward Lee PS--tonight I was walking back from Burger King Ia bit pissed cuz their new "deluxe Alaskan" fish sandwich is pretty damn small for almost 4 bucks) and as I approached, I noticed that cop cars with flashing lights were blocking off the road I live on. "Is everything all right, Officer?" I asked. The guy ID'd me, verified my address, then said, "Oh, yeah, there's no problem. But when you get back to you house, stay inside." Hmmm.

Lee, glad to hear your back home and got all the house stuff finally completed...I'm sure this is all a huge relief, and hopefully the sale/inspections go seamlessly. Very funny (?) story about the rapping/knocking...and so stoked to hear you're going to be back to work writing...I can only imagine how much you've been jonesing for that!
Getting married at the end of the week and honeymooning not far from your neck of the woods (Sarasota beach), and probably taking The Dunwich Romance with me, since I haven't read it yet. (I tend to race through your books and have so few that aren't read) How's that for honeymoon reading material? But hey, it does have the word romance in the title!

Glad to hear things seem to be winding down now with the House.
Funny as fuck to hear about the cop saying nothing to worry about but stay inside. Glad nothing untoward happened though.
Great new that Tom Pic is doing well. Never had a chance to read anything by him yet except the Necro Bastards Of Alchemy and Night Class, but I've got a few lined up now.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that the closing goes through. What great news! And so glad Tom Pic is better!
As far as the police on your street....I think it's your Maryland ghosts trying to find your house and wreaking havoc in your neighborhood! Heard anything strange in your house yet?
Hopefully you can rest for a bit now. You deserve it!
Konnie
Oh, and Flahorrorwriter---congrats on your marriage!!
Chris: that's great about the marriage, and the idea of Dunwich Romance going along thrills me! Good luck to you! Konnie: I wish you hadn't suggested the possibility about MAryland ghosts! I wouldn't be the least bit surprised!
As for TOm, I haven't heard any further reports so no news is good news. I'm sure he'll be fine.
Oh, and the other night when I mentioned that I'd just started watching American Horror House and that it looked good...well, right after I clicked the SUBMIT button, I looked up at the screen and there was a giant teddy bear throwing a cute college gal out the window. I'm afraid the movie's credibility was thrown out the window as well. You all might want to pass on this one!

Thanks, Lee, for the well-wishes...in fact, I had my lovely wife take a picture of me sitting out at the hotel pool reading The Dunwich Romance...I'll put it up here when we're back home.
As for Tom Pic, Brian Keene and some others went to visit Tom, and from what I understand Tom is pretty stable, so that's great news. and, for those who haven't seen it, here's a link to a very moving piece that Brian wrote about some of the social subjectivities of the genre. He really is a wonderful, caring guy: : http://www.briankeene.com/?p=12710
Things are okay for me. I'll be praying that this PREPOSTEROUS storm doesn't cause any hardships for those of you who will feel it's clout. What the HELL is a storm like this doing showing up in late October!? I'm knocking on serious wood that my mother's house doesn't get cut in half by a falling tree two weeks before it's supposed to sell!
