First a word of warning, I'll be spoiling Coffin County with my question that follows. I've heard this referred to as perhaps Gary's most popular story, although I've never had the fortune of actually reading it myself, because as far as I can tell it's only reprinted in From Beneath These Fields of Blood. Now, I've been a big fan for awhile, but I came to the party late enough to miss the first run of this collection, and I'm a little hesitant to spend the $300 this volume current fetches on eBay, so I have a quick question for those of you who have read it. Is Coffin County an expansion of this story, and if so what parts? You read enough of Gary's short stories and you find nuggets of them in most of his longer works. I'm wondering if this was the story from which the whole Judas/butterfly/unmarked graves angle came from, as the title seems to suggest? And if anyone has any other ideas on where to find this, for example, I'd be thrilled. I'm hoping it's going to be in the next Cedar Hill collection from Earthling, but I haven't seen any story listings yet. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. |

Krutiis: Yes, COFFIN COUNTY is the expansion of Haceldama (in fact, HACELDAMA began life as a novel). E-mail me at gary@garybraunbeck.com and I'll be more than happy to send you an electronic copy. Gary |
