In the Mouth of Madness

Watched this Saturday night. Not Carpenter's best but when it first came out, I wasn't all that familiar with Lovecraft's work. Watching it again, I understood it more and actually enjoyed the movie much better this time around.

The downside, however, was I had really icky nightmares on Saturday night although some might think that is a good thing.

I think it is his best movie. It's extremely effective as a horror movie. I have friends who won't finish watching it because it was too scary for them.

I also like this movie. It's difficult to follow and the ending is weird, but it's creepy as hell. I think the same of most David Lynch (sp?) movies I see.

I love this movie as well.

But Victor, Carpenter's best?? That's a bold statement man.

Another underrated Carpenter movie: Prince of Darkness.

He gets lots of love from genre aficionados.

My favourite Carpenter flick is a toss up between Big Trouble in Little China and The Thing. Also love Madness, They Live, Halloween, Escape from New York....

I think I'd have to with The Thing as my favorite, followed closely by Halloween.

The Thing, They Live, Christine are all far superior (IMHO) to In the Mouth of Madness. Escape from New York is a classic and ranks at the top of Carpenter movies for me and there is absolutely nothing wrong with Prince of Darkness. That one was awesome on the big screen and, for it's time, was very well done. It probably could be better now but why do it when there are so many other stories just begging to be made into movies.

I just don't understand the remake craze.

I would love to see him get more love from the studios.

My faves: In The Mouth of Madnes, The Thing, THey Live, Halloween, Big Trouble In Little China, and Escape From New York. Prince of Darkness has a really cool premise to it, but it felt incomplete.

Decent film. I really liked it when it first came out but I bought it a couple of years back and it hasn't aged brilliantly.

The Thing and Escape from New York are Carpenter's best.

I remember this one. I had it on VHS. Man, that makes me feel so old. VHS tapes are such a thing of the past now.

I'm a huge JC fan. Personally, I think this was the last decent film John Carpenter made.

Oh my, I haven't seen In the Mouth of Madness. I guess I need to rectify that.

Prince of Darkness is one of my favorite John Carpenter films. It's a little dated, sure, but still creepy as all hell. And it's got Alice Cooper in it!

One of the reasons I remember going to the movie was to see Alice Cooper. I was a big fan of his early 70's music. Funny you bring him up, I've got Love It To Death and Killer in the car now. I had to make a trip yesterday and threw them in to listen to.

I have several copies of They Live. My brother makes sure he isn't eating during the bank scene, the kidnap scene, the alley fight scene, and the final sex scene. It took him four bowls of cornflakes to learn that.
