Retirement

For those of you who think things aren't bad enough for those of us "left behind" in the wake of outsourcing, check out this retirement email - it says so much:

This is my official notice that I want to put in for retirement and would want to retire ASAP. As far as I'm concerned my last day can be today if you so desire. Call me so we can discuss.

This was from someone you work with? Wow, this really does drive home the point of how bad it is there.

I understand the sentiment, though I'm along way away from where that person's at. I seem to be counting the days until retirement, I think about it every day. Just 84 more months until my house is paid off...just 84 more months...

I know so many people who really hate their jobs right now. Low morale, wondering who's going to get the axe next; immense pressure to bring in sales affecting the higher-ups, which is then reflecting back on those lower down the ladder.

Ugh.

While this isn't the same thing, I have had days when I go upstairs to the bathroom and before coming back down them again, this steep concrete flight of stairs like the ones in THE EXORCIST, wonder just how long I'd be able to be off work if I "fell" and broke my leg.

I'm not worried about workman's comp or anything, just to get a few days off without feeling like I was screwing my boss by not being here.

A broken leg's gotta be good for a week or two, right?

It seems like I'm one of the few that can actually say I like my job. like Tony, I am also looking
forward to retirement, I only have 8 years to go.

I don't hate my job, but I do like the idea of retiring. Unfortunately, at 52 that's a long way away.

I have a house that will be paid off in about 23 years, at the rate that I'm paying.

I had been half-hoping to pull the pin at 65 but a recent Globe & Mail article informed me that the average Canadian male's age of retirement may actually be about 75.

While I love what I do, I have no delusions about retirement, since newspapers will be long gone by then...

i took my retirement from 18 to 24, now i gotta work til I die.
