I need some advice. This year I've been diving into the self-publishing options available at Smashwords.com and through Amazon's Kindle store. I've put up mostly just reprint short stories, giving them away for free, but I have also compiled a few short collections and reprinted my 25-story collection that's been out of print. Plus I have published 1 previously unpublished story, setting the price at $0.99. The free reprints go like hotcakes with hundreds of downloads and some reviews posted from readers who've enjoyed them. The $0.99 stories sell a copy here and there, but overall aren't doing so good (once one of the free stories reaches 250 downloads, I up the price to $0.99). My question is, where should I go from here. My options are still wide open. I could post more individual short fiction. Or put together another collection. Or publish one of the novels that have been doing nothing for years on my hard drive. But I have gone over and over this in my head and just can't decide which would be the next best move. So, any advice would be greatly appreciated. |
