I've been working with a new cover artist; his name is Diego Candia and he's really quite talented.

For John Taff's upcoming book "Little Deaths" Diego created two different versions of the same image. Take a look and let me know what you think. I figure I'll use one image for the front cover and one for the back... but which one should be deemed front and which should be deemed back?

Any suggestions?

What do you think?

I think both of these are fantastic, but would love to know what others think. Leave us some opinions here!

I already left a comment regarding the covers on FB, but I completely love both designs. I think the front cover would be better showing the "innocent" side of the little girl and then upon reaching the end, readers would then see the creepy version. That way it's kind of built up to. Can't wait to check this one out. :)

You know what's funny? John doesn't have a facebook account so he doesn't know that people have been talking about his upcoming book for the last couple of weeks. Personally, I hope he never gets an account, that way - when he pisses me off - I can badmouth him without him knowing. ;)

When I piss you off, Roy? You mean that hasn't happened yet? :)

If you're doing front and back, I think the innocent one should b the front... harder to believe someone goes from evil to innocent... Evil leaves a residue that spoils innocence forever... just my opinion though.

The one with the girl showing her teeth is hands down the creepiest. Love it.

I share the opinion of the others. The nasty grin at the back. Very nice. That artist has talent.

I'm in agreement with the other folks here: The innocent girl on the front, evil on the back.

A fine example of something similar is Cemetery Dance's edition of Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King. The innocent man on the front with the evil in the mirror, and vice versa on the back cover. Makes for a creepy book, IMHO.

::EDIT:: I found an image with both the front and back cover art for it, but it's giving me a red X on here. Anyway, if you search "Cemetery Dance Full Dark No Stars" on Google Images, it's at the top.

Yep, that's it. :)

I think the Little Deaths cover would have a similarly creepy feel.

You know, you could achieve the same effect by ghouling out the teddy bear on the innocent girl cover, then leaving the teddy bear innocent on the back. I love the idea, but with the innocent girl on the cover, do you think the genre might be unclear at first glance? Wouldn't want people to walk on past, thinking it wasn't horror.
