Beginning the research and background work for a new novella that will incorporate some of my Borneo experiences.
It will have a *high concept* (I think that's what the movie folk call it)--something I think will have legs.
With the above title, it would fit nicely into a novella collection with RUSTING CHICKENS and THE BLUE HERON. How
about calling it: LETHAL BIRDS?

Nanci: We saw these magnificent birds twice in Borneo high in the jungle canopy. They
are as large as a swan, and featured on the national stamp. But--there is always a but nowadays, right--
there is some small-time poaching because the horn is indeed a kind of ivory and good for carving. The good news
is they never come near the ground and are very difficult to hit.

Nanci: I always write from my journal, never look at pics. But Kay takes a lot.
I'll check and see if she took any of hornbills.

Only a few days away from my last of the 1st readers checking in with a reaction. Then off to an interested
publisher. But this one may have legs depending on the response to the novella. We'll see.
More later.

Thunderstorm Books will be bringing out OPERATION RHINOCEROS HORNBILL in two editions.
100 copies of a signed/limited hardback at $40 and 15 deluxe copies at $110. The release
date has not been determined yet. If you have any interest in Borneo or care about the further
exploits of geriatric-but-not-acting-it Joey Hotsko and Ryan O'Toole (THE BLUE HERON), this
is the book for you. The story is built around what I think Hollywood calls a "high concept," which
may result in more books, etc. We'll see.
