The 78 Card card set is a “Draculian” take on the traditional Tarot. Scholarly and intelligent, the 119 page booklet provides accurate and thoroughly researched historical information of the gruesome activities of Vladimir Dracula, aka Vlad the impaler. He was of course the charismatic but ruthless ruler of medieval Romania in the 14 century. He was also part of the inspiration for the Gothic classic “Dracula” by Bram Stoker published in 1897. Arguably the whole of vampire culture as we know it can be traced back to Vlad Dracula.

The interpretation of the Tarot is unique and interesting both from a historical perspective and that of a personal journey, without straying too far from the essence of traditional Tarot. The booklet offers both a succinct description from a historical angle , along with a divinatory meaning for each card.

The art imagery in the cards is depicted in the style of traditional medieval woodcuts and brings Vlad’s journey to life in a charming and unique way. The author’s passion for the whole subject is evident throughout. There are rarely known gems of history waiting to be discovered within this set.

In the realm of the Draculian Tarot, the 78 cards weave a tapestry of historical intrigue and personal revelation, with each card representing a chapter in Vlad the Impaler’s enigmatic life. Among these, the 6 of pentacles emerges as a symbol of balance and generosity amidst the darkness of Vlad’s story. It echoes Vlad’s paradoxical legacy, where moments of unexpected kindness intertwined with acts of terrifying brutality. I found the suggested spreads particularly interesting, including a “reading for overcoming weaknesses,” which encourages a refreshing look on the “darker” cards in the Tarot, as well as the “Orthodox cross spread” . Which I felt was an authentic experience when I tried it out, seeing that Vlad himself was a member of the Eastern Orthodox church.

The whole experience of the Vlad Dracula Tarot set is energetic and deeply knowledgeable, from the glorious deep red design and soft finish of the box and cards to the deep insights within. A must have for fans of vampires, Tarot, and history. The deck is suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
