The Daily Nightmare, at dailynightmare.com, is an online repository of reader-contributed nightmares. Their recent publication, 13 Quick Shivers, is supposed to be the first installment of an annual series, and if the quality can be kept to the high level of this first volume, I’m really looking forward to future publications.

Comprised of 12 stories that each run exactly 100 words, 13 Quick Shivers is an attractive little trade paperback that packs a lot of fun into a small package. The stories are all based on reader-contributed nightmares from the website, and cover a wide variety of fears and terrors, including evil gnomes, murderous cheating wives, mobsters, bugs, babies, cannibals. vicious dogs, and many more. The book is typeset by the artist EYE-gor, and you usually don’t see the typesetter getting mentioned in reviews, but EYE-gor’s typesetting is as much of a draw as the stories themselves. Each tale is laid out in it’s own eye-catching manner, and typeset in a font that reflects an aspect of the story. Fun stuff. I hope future volumes keep EYE-gor on board…his work really adds a lot to the book.

13 Quick Shivers is a quick, fun read, and I highly recommend it to horror fans looking for a nice change of pace.
