We are going on a camping trip tomorrow. That is generally our counciling. Three days of no tv, computer or outside stimulus. Just the two of us and talking. Normally we end up remembering that we actually like each other and why. I have hopes we can turn this funk around. sort of.

My "wife" listened to me. She didn't get the loan. She got a credit card instead...That's not gonna end well. But the "silver Linin" is that she won't be tanking my credit as well.

Awful day yesterday. Hot to the point of being thoroughly obnoxious. They tell you to go down to the beach because it's cooler there, but because that's what everyone else does, you can't get anywhere close. So you try and hunker down, sit it out, do all the stuff you know that will work to keep you cool, only it doesn't. It just keeps you teetering on some lethargic edge while your work piles up around you and you don't have the energy to do any of it. Meanwhile, after a memory ping a few days ago via someone's mentioning of it, an all-time favorite song with an undeniably nasty ability to haunt - 'Ode to Billy Joe' - continues to play over and over inside your head, picking at a sanity that's already eroded because you haven't been able to sleep because of the heat and because the bearing has gone in the ceiling fan and it makes a rattling noise and although your brain knows that sound belongs to the ceiling fan it conjures up other things while you sleep - a car accident outside - a monster banging on the front door - and you keep waking up and thinking what the fuck. All this stuffed in your head but you get to the end of the day and you think you've finally made it without spiralling down, and you crack open a beer and you hit one of the online gossip sites for some mindless fluff and schadenfreude and BAM! - the very first headline, only it's not Billie Joe McAllister it's Tony Scott who's jumped off the bridge down in Long Beach and it hits you like a fucking brick wall.

You are the only person in the world who I have ever seen use the word "schadenfreude" in a sentence. You wrote a nice bit there, but the only portion of it that I retained was the word, "schadenfreude". As I'm sitting in my air-conditioned office, eating my lunch consisting of left-over steak tips and chicken breast (which is not as enticing as it sounds) that word keeps ricocheting through my mind. Schadenfreude...schadenfreude...schadenfreude. I've received phone calls from customers and have replied to them with a three syllable response..."schadenfreude". My boss asked me earlier when I was going to have a quote finished and all I could offer was..."schadenfreude". When I went to the bathroom moments ago and glanced down at my extrusion, the first thing that came to my mind was..."schadenfreude".

It's time to exorcise this mantra! Begone from my head devil word! I will actually sink to looking the word up so I know what the fuck it means in order to have some peace. I think I now know why Billy Joe MacAllester jumped off the Tallahassee Bridge. Though I'm pretty sure I know why Tony Scott jumped off the bridge he chose, I've heard that he had inoperable brain cancer.
