I pre-ordered my copy this morning. Love the cover art and everything about the plot (including the excerpts posted here) I have read. This can't come out soon enough.

I can't wait for this. I was a little unsure about it until I read the review on the site. This sounds like it's gonna be great. Would love to get a lettered version of this but i'm not sure when i'd have the money due to school. I'm definitely pre-ordering the limited version just as soon as the idiots in washington fix their mess so I get my money from the VA.

While I HOPE this does not get me banned. If it does, So be it. I GOTTA speak my mind. I have no clue who makes the choices in new releases. I don't know if it's Mr Lee's Call or The People that Publish it. As someone that used to be such a huge fan of Lee stuff. Its So frustrating. They wanna put new stuff out there Like this release. I respect that. The hardcore fans will eat it up.
What about the casual fan that wants to simply Pop it on there Kendal and give it a read. Saw the Same thing with Bullet through your face. Kendal readers are just out of luck. They do this stuff then they get all bent out of shape when People scan and share it.
Most other authors put there stuff out there in ebook format. Discovered Blake crouch, The author of the Serial Killers, His ebook stuff for the most part is a buck for a short story, 3 bucks for Most his other stuff. A couple of ebooks are 10 bucks. Oh MAN his stuff is great. I will Buy in time all of it.
My point being, There is money to be made in ebooks, After seeing it on youtube, The process is simple, Does not take that long to do. After reading a free release of Crouch, after seeing how inexpensive Most is stuff was, I broke out the credit card and started in. In time I will collect everything. I know people scream about sharing. Well LOTS of people do it every day. Its called going to the library. True fans of Reading will buy the book. I have purchased about everything Mr Lee has to offer ebook wise. If you put it out there Would buy more.
In the end its really common sense. IMHO, Put out there so fans can buy and support the author and his work. Or ignore it, people will share it on there own. Its just that simple. God I am gonna miss you guys if this gets me banned. I just HAD to speak my peace. Thank you...................Oh here is a MAJOR authors thoughts on people sharing his stuff. He is another one i have in time Purchased everything he has to offer on ebook format. If you dont want to read it, let me offer you his last quote of Mr. J.A. Korath
"I believe the majority of piracy exists because copyright holders are unable or unwilling to meet specific consumer demand, such as availability, price, and convenience."
Sorry forgot a point. Lets take Edward Lee's Book "Header" as and Example. You put it out there in ebook format. Say charge 3 bucks. Some causal fan sees the book, Decides hey for 3 bucks I will give it a shot. Other Fans will flock to it. Then they decide, Hey great author, Then they go and buy his other stuff. "Hey there is a header 2 out ?" Cool I can buy it in ebook, Had me my credit card. I so have to tell others about this author I found, incurage them to buy it. Its SOOO Good. Ok my rants done. I mean no disrespect, As a fan of reading, I just wanted to speak my peace. Thank you..............

I would imagine that this will become available in e-format in time. I myself cannot afford limiteds, but I'm happy to wait until someone puts a trade pb out. Konrath seems to be making a shit-ton of moolah going strictly ebook, and that's great for him, but it might not work for everyone.

Bullet was published last year! That’s not a long time, even for a rat! I own an ereader, I think it’s great and all but I grew up reading BOOKS, my preference will always be for books. If you want to read Bullet so badly, buy it! You can get it (and own the physical copy for ever and ever) for about $10 - dude, it’s a bargain!
Ed will not lose my readership if I have to wait a few years for an affordable copy of one of his books - noone writes like him, in my very humble opinion.

Tym,
Not really sure I fully understand your beef with Lee, but let me say this, as a self-confessed Lee fan and bibliophile, most if not all his work is available in digital format. I should know, I have a NOOK and while I will always purchase his limited editions (as well as the Deadite and Necro stuff) with a few very minor exceptions. Perhaps your issue is more with Kindle and not with the author. NOOK uses a more universal ePub format as opposed to the limited Amazon format. More books are available for NOOK. Plus, as someone who is closely tied to the retail book business, digital is only going to become more common and available, so just be patient.

...and one other point, that making something available as an ebook is pretty much in the hands of the publisher, unless the author really wants to put it out there on their own. I've already seen quite a few that have, and that takes a lot of time and effort on their part and probably time away from working on that next writing project. I think I'd rather have them writing, wouldn't you (as I'm sure they would as well)?
Flash I was concerned a bit someone would Think I was Upset or Mad at Mr. Lee or his Publisher. Not the case. I just Dont have the talent Mr. Lee has for expressing himself with words. Just think its silly not to release not only his current stuff, Like Bullet through your Face, and Some of his older more classic stuff Like header and Going Monstering On Ebook. Ok, Yes in time It may get out there. Dont know.
This current release is only used as an example. Think there was another release of short stories not long ago that again no digital format. I always LOVED Lee's stuff. Not a fan of Short stories, But the other stuff LOVED it. When they Released Header2 in ebook, That would of been the best time to release Header at the same time. Recently Mr. Lee's Publisher Found out about the Release of some of Lee's current stuff, and His Back Catalog that someone had scanned and turned into ebook format.
You can be just about sure, That with this brand new release, Someone will Scan it, And there gonna put it out there. Like I said. People that do this get paid for others downloading there stuff. I HATE people that Pirate stuff. But if The publisher is not gonna give the fans what they want, someone else will.
So why not beat the Pirates to the Punch. Release it in Digital, Make it affordable. Authors Like Crouch, have this figured out. He put out something really good free, It was called Serial, Then he released Serial Uncut. It was only 3 bucks. I tried it LOVED IT. Most his other stuff is only 3 bucks, So I, in time got all of it. Bet he and his publisher are making money. Korath doing the same thing.
Its my LOVE of Lee's Stuff that made me decide to post all this. Its the Respect I have for him as a author that made me decide to make the posts. Its my aggravation at pirates that helped make my choice. Just hope it wakes someone up. Hope they finally decide to step into the Digital world. Give way more people the chance to discover what a amazing author Lee is. In the End the Choice is there's.
LMAO, after reading my previous posts, it kinda hit me. You have to realize people will talk about new ebook stuff, Especially if its cheep. I have talked about Crouch and his stuff. Wanna bet a few have went to amazon and looked him up? Maybe even a few decided to buy it? Lee and His publisher could benefit the same way. People will talk about the New Release, If was in digital format, others may go try it themselves. Word of mouth can make for some nice profit.
ahhhhhhh, November is so far away, still need to order this, but this is my top priority, though I'm torn between this and Witch Water. Wonder which one will be better?
Goodness, this is some debate! The problem is most publishers don't want an ebook released right away after they've spent some considerable money on printing fees. I'm just a writer, a guy who sits in a room and writes. I'm not comfortable dictating to publishers that I want their prints sales possibly undercut by ebook sales: they'd have little motive to publish my books in the first place. It seems reasonable to me that some time pass between hardcovers, pb's and ebook versions. Ultimately all things happen in time, so what's the rush. It's not like I'm Stephen King. There'll be plenty of Lee for everyone, and I thank you all for your support and interest, and respect everyone's opinion.
Hey James. I read your blog about ebooks. You cite THE CONVULSION FACTORY by Brian Hodge and UP, OUT OF CITIES THAT BLOW HOT AND COLD by Charlee Jacob. For a self-proclaimed newbie you sure know your shit! These are two of the best collections I have ever read. I sold my hardcover copies of both of these on speculation that eBook copies would be available. It took some time and thought for me to figure out what I wanted in my reading experience. What I decided for myself was that I did not need to own books worth hundreds of dollars each. It simply did not make sense for me once the stories were available in other formats. I decided to keep my Ed Lee collection and my complete Necro Publications collection. My personal belief is that these will hold value. And I like them. For the most part digital is the future. There is a woman in my home state of Minnesota who has three or more titles on Amazon's top 100 best seller list. Romantic dragon were-goblin shit. 99 cents a copy. She couldn't find a paper publisher so she did it herself. Now she is a multi-millionaire. Go figure.
While I'm something of a relative newbie to the small press, I've been a horror fan for a long time. In my late teens I was still reading mainly Stephen King when someone told me about Clive Barker and said he was even better. So I took a chance and bought The Books of Blood, which to this day is still my all time favourite short story collection.
I think because I stumbled upon such brilliant horror fiction early on, I just assumed that everything else was going to be as good. But it took me years of reading before I discovered another writer who was producing horror fiction up there with Barker's early work. This was Michael Marshall Smith, and his collections What You Make It and More Tomorrow & Other Stories. A few more years went by before I discovered Charlee Jacob, Edward Lee and the small press.
Reading Lee and Jacob for the first time was like discovering Barker all over again. I bought Lee's The Bighead and Jacob's collection Dread In The Beast, and they both completely blew me away. Lee's short fiction is amazing too and very underrated, but he's generally received much of the recognition he deserves. Jacob however seems to have fallen between the cracks.
I've read most of her books now and have no doubt that the woman is an absolute genius. I've been raving about her for years to anyone who'll listen and just can't believe the general lack of interest in her work, even from hardcore fans. I think that ultimately, Jacob is simply too good, too intelligent, too erudite, too literary for the vast majority of readers.
Richard Christian Matheson is another one. His collection Dystopia is absolutely outstanding but I've never heard it mentioned anywhere.
Anyway, although I've covered quite a bit of ground in the last few years there's still a hell of a lot of books and writers I haven't read within the small press, mainly because there's new hardcovers and trade paperbacks coming out all the time and I can only afford to buy a fraction of them. Hopefully ebooks will soon change all that.
I don't buy small press books because they're valuable though, I just love the feel of a book in my hand and an ereader will never completely replace that.
Here are a couple more interesting articles on the subject from different points of view. Apparently quite a few writers are making a ton through self publishing. As an aspiring writer myself, it's definitely something I'll be following closely.
Amanda Hocking is the person I was referring to. Local gal made good. Richard Christian Matheson's collection DYSTOPIA. This was the very first book I plunked down $50 for, without having a slightest clue about the author. I was blown away. Matheson, however, was not well served by having the cheapest copy of his collection cost $50. This short story collection should have been read by every horror fan. Incredible use of language. A trade edition or paperback would have brought him a huge audience. It does not seem that he is interested in being a well known author. Other fish to fry.... I guess I have given up on trying to get people to read Charlee Jacob. Her and Piccirilli (at his best) are the type of authors that appeal to a select crowd. Never will have wide acceptance....
