I really need to get over not wanting to talk to people or to ask them for a favor. I hate feeling that way. Maurice Broaddus actually gave me shit about it at MoCon last May.

Well, I can't tell you how many times I froze when meeting these authors. The first one I met was Hautula and that went o.k., but then I met Jack Ketchum and it went fine until he gave me a dirty look after I make a comment on something he said. From then on I was really tongue tied for a while.

Except for Keith. He was the nicest guy there and he really puts you at ease. I had so much fun with him and he was so open about his work, often I just listened to his stories like the fan boy I really am. Wait until you meet him!

And one guy that makes you feel like he just loves you for loving him is James A. Moore. I can't wait until you meet him.

I had only met Brian for a minute or two, but he also makes you feel very much at ease. And so did F. Paul Wilson. And Tom M. Man, I could go on and on I guess, there were a lot of really nice authors there. But I still felt like I was way out of my element when talking to these guys.

I only had one bad experience there. I was standing around the quad with my camera over my shoulder and a gang of authors was walking back from the caf to the quad. When they saw me, one author said "NO! You can't have any pictures and the rest laughed."

I think he thought I couldn't hear him but I did, and he realized it after seeing me standing there stunned. I wasn't even going to ask them for a picture! I felt like such an idiot though, like I was just this dumb fan. These guys were my hero's and they were making fun of me. I talked to Nanci about it to get it out of my system and we talked it out and I felt better afterward. I won't say who said it or who the gang was, but I pretty much put it out of my mind. But it's hard to do when I'm writing a review of one of his books I tell you. I just chalked it up to him trying to be funny.

So two lessons from this. One, don't question anything Jack Ketchum says, and don't take pictures of these guys outside the group meetings.

All the authors at MoCon did their best to put me, and everyone else, at ease. Once I did get talking, I wasn't too bad. And I've met others that did that. Talking with Gene O'Neill at Context was one of the easiest conversations I've had with someone I'd just met. And when I used to hit the comic conventions, quite a few of those folks were easy to talk to. And some weren't. I wonder if that's kinda skewed my perspective a bit. Of course, I was absolutely tongue-tied meeting Patrick Stewart.

I have to admit to freaking out a bit about the radiation that is hitting and will hit the West Coast starting today. I know that in the beginning it will be light but ummmm radiation is radiation.
The rational part of me knows this is stupid but there is this elemental part of me that is flat out screaming in terror.

After being teased with near 70 degree weather, it's been in the low 40's the past two days. Still too much snow on the ground and too cool to be outdoors. I am so wanting to go outside and do yard work.
