A question for Mr. Lee...
I apologize in advance if someone has asked you this before, but this just popped into my head. I would really love to know what books, if any, you have read that disturbed YOU. It would be interesting to know if the King of Depravity (and I say that as a compliment) has ever had to set aside a book for awhile, or almost lost your lunch over something you read.
One that comes instantly to mind is Rex Miller's FRENZY, a very good book but so monstrous in parts I had to take breaks from it. Also, ANYTHING by Peter Sotos. His stuff leaves a black aura around my head, such that I can't even keep the books; their negativity is palpable. I remember when I lived in Seattle my room felt haunted simply by having the books on my shelf, so I had to give them to other people!
Peter Sotos is very tough to read. I give it a try now and then and give up. I don't need that much dark! It is hard to understand why he hasn't killed himself! I think he has tried everything else........... I am starting to read Rex Miller. SLOB will be first. Take it from there.
As long as Mr. Lee seems to be answering questions.............. I spotted a review of Rex Miller's books on Amazon a while back. The reviewer brought up the idea that Miller and T. Winter-Damon are the same person. Would you have any knowledge about this?
Jonah: Sotos is a tough read, but if interested in being whilly depressed, I guess I'd recommend Special. (But PLEASE get rid of it after you read it! I swear that book haunted me with its nihilism!)
Konnie: I'm sorry to say that I probably won't be able to make Horrorfind this year. I've just got too much family stuff going on that culd change at the drop of a hat. I'll try like hell to get there for one day, not as an attendee but as a guest; if this comes to be, I'll definitely let you know beforehand on the board. HF is ALWASY a blast!
Jpokela: Damon as Miller? I've neverheard that one before. No, there's no truth to that one. I knew both guys personally. Many times I spoke to Rex on the phone (he lived in some bohunk town like East Prairie MO, I believe) and, MAN, could he rip thruogh some jokes. When he talked about his former careers in radio and collectibles, it was intriguing. Damon I takled to many times as well, very cool, low key guy, a wonderful friend. I don't know if I ever mentioned this on the board before but Rex gave Damon and me permission to script his novel SLOB (wait a minute, I did mention that! Christ I'm getting old) and there were times when I would call Damon, then call Rex, then back and forth like that. If Rex was posing as Damon and vice versa, well, that was quite an elaborate job!
Well, I got my copy of Soto's collected works out of my hands. Finally...........I will let the person who now has it deliver a ....ahem.....book report. I just won SLOB and FRENZY in a eBay auction. Now I get to find out what Rex had going. Thanks, Ed, for the Winter-Damon Rex Miller story. I had expected a sequel to DUET FOR THE DEVIL. The way that book ended was unrepentant and dark. Even in the hardcore horror I read is there rarely such an ending. Took me by surprise and then some!
Awwww, I was sure hoping you would make it to Horrorfind. That would be great if you at least came for a day, but I would feel like I am imposing if I came up to ask for a pic and autograph on your "off" day. But I do understand about your family and I hope things get better for you! Please try to come to the Midwest sometime....you have a lot of fans out here!
