You all did a great job on your stories. I have to say you are a brave bunch to attempt flash fiction. I can't do it. Anything under 2,000 words and I'm lost (and I have difficulty with that small an amount to be honest). But all of you presented a fully realized tale with good characters and interesting ideas. Some quick impressions of each:
Angela: I like the scene where she sees her picture with the notes underneath. That would be a chilling thing to see indeed.
My Father: I really like the idea of missing the fact that one could no longer see what they looked like anymore. I think the longer time passed the loss would magnify.
Holes: I like the reason for the holes everywhere. I got a good sense of the state the world was in as well.
Forbidden Love: - I thought it was a great period piece and liked the moral dilemma presented.
First Date: The Alzheimer idea was brilliant and I thought the main character was well fleshed out.
Filling the Abyss: I really liked the descriptions here, particularly with the sounds. I got a good sense of the atmosphere and environment.
Perfect Woman: I thought the dialog was well presented. The conversation at dinner seemed especially natural and conveyed a good bit of needed information to boot.
The Last First Date: This was my favorite story. I like the evil supernatural elements within, particularly the voice on the recording. I thought it was a well crafted piece that conveyed a lot of menance and dread.
Thanks for commenting Matt! It does mean a lot to us when published authors come on here to comment on the stories!
For those that don't know Matt, just click on his lincs at the bottom of his post or visit him at Mark Justices shared author board. Matt just might be the most knowledgable person in the world when it comes to vintage horror and his columns/website are a blast to read.
Well, that's one more story, and one more contest than me, and most of the rest of us have had published! Thad did have one story published in an anthology and hopefully the rest of us will be able to say the same soon.
You sell yourself short, you are the only "go to" guy I know of concerning vintage horror.
Thanks again for the kind words, and congrats on winning the Pod of Horror contest!
And feel free to contribute to this month's thread!
We should have written stories about people that died and went to hell, and what it's like having to date someone in hell. On the first date in hell, everyone would be real sweaty I bet.
For anyone wondering what this thread is about, a small group of regulars in The Cellar here in Horrorworld all contributed to a writing exercise where we had to write a story that was under 1001 words long on the subject of "first dates from hell".
We just finished our second exercise, the subject matter was "ten penny nails". Check out The Cellar for to read these entries and to get more info.

I still like to come back to these threads and re-read the stories. Some good stuff here.

Love, love the Alzheimer's idea in First date.
