This weekend we received the letter editions of Lost Tribe by Gene O'Neill. I have lettered them and mailed all the copies out today so be on the lookout for your copy. They are beautiful if I say so myself and I do! Plus there is a extra short story by Gene and a extra art piece by Zach McCain, how can you go wrong with that!
Speaking of Gene that handsome devil has dropped a few hints here and there about the next book we are going to announce and it of course is one of his. Be on the lookout for a newsletter in the next couple of weeks letting you know where you can pick up the next book in our Eclipse line titled Shadow of the Dark Angel by the man, the myth, the legend Gene O'Neill. It is a great supernatural serial killer with a weird sexual fetish novel. To do a slight comparison it is similar to Thomas Harris' Red Dragon. Like all the titles in the Eclipse line there will only be 100 numbered copies done so make sure you are on our newsletter mailing list so that you will get the announcement when it is sent.
Apparently both Bad Moon Books and Horror Mall are already taking pre-orders on SHADOW OF THE DARK ANGEL. And there are only 23 left--if I'm reading BMB announcement correctly? Great cover, excellent interior illustrations, and I think pretty fair text. Hope everyone who wants one gets a shot--I realize it has a hefty price tag.
On another note, apparently the lettered editions for LOST TRIBE are shipping today. How about you guys letting me know about this one, including the bonus story, "Ghost Town." Oh, speaking of lettereds, I'm doing something really special for the lettered folks onboard for the novella DOC GOOD'S TRAVELING SHOW with the bonus story--it requires delving slightly into your interests, hobbies, etc. Liz is digging up the info on this one.
I enjoyed White Tribe a great deal and was worried that I would not like the expansion, but it's been years now since I read White Tribe that I could not remember every detail or notice all of what was added so it worked out great.
It was almost like reading the entire story from scratch and I highly enjoyed it.
And Roy and the gang once again has put the story in a very excellent package.
I Have Shadow of The Dark Angel on order, which was no small feat for me, since I'm broke... But I could not risk waiting then missing out.
It may come down to eating my pet , But I will do all I can not to go without my next Gene O fix.
Slim: You're a good man! I appreciate your support, especially during these lean times--I realize a limited hb takes a real commitment and a chunk out of the budget. The feedback on LOST TRIBE is also great. Again, I thank you. I suppose all I can do for fans like you is continue to write to the best of my ability, and hope the effort justifies the sacrifices folks make in my behalf.
I sincerely appreciate everyone's support. I go to only a few cons, and, when I do, I truly enjoy meeting each of you--enjoy shaking your hand or signing anything you may have brought. A highlight of my first con was when a guy came up with a shopping bag and kind of shyly asked me to sign all the stuff--magazines wrinkled and browned and dating back to the early TWILIGHT ZONE MAGAZINE circa 1981. It took maybe thirty minutes to do all those magazines and anthologies, but it was an honor.
Roy is sold out of LOST TRIBE, but there is one--yes, one-copy still available at Horror Mall. As far as I know that is the last new one available on the net.
SHADOW OF THE DARK ANGEL pre-orders going well. BMB over four fifths sold out, still some available at Horror Mall.
Hard at work on a new Cal Wild novella, THE GREAT NORTHERN SWEET WATER RAID, a tale told by an enhanced horse of a time when Canada and Mexico didn't share a common border.
I just received my very elegant CC of the lettered edition of LOST TRIBE. Everything is classy, including Zach McCain's illustration for the bonus story "Ghost Town." It looks like a sepia photograph described in the story, captured everything described exactly, including the ghostly, grainy face in the background. Kudos to the BMB bunch. And if you have some heavy bread lying around, slip over to HM and snag the "B" letter of this edition. Gene
BMB has 15 copies of SHADOW OF THE DARK ANGEL left for pre-order. I'm wondering if any will be available at the BMB table at the Stokers in Burbank in June.
I don't know if this interests anyone here, but there are three lettered copies of LOST TRIBE apparently available suddenly. Victims of the economy perhaps. One at the Horror Mall, two at Bad Moon Books--contact Liz@BadMoonBooks.com if interested.
The ARCs for SHADOW OF THE DARK ANGEL have been sent out, so we should have some reviews trickling in soon. Pre-orders are going well, about 85% sold out now.
The reactions to LOST TRIBE, I've heard, have all been especially positive. And that includes reactions to the lettered edition and bonus story, "Ghost Town."
Thanks to all for keeping me working. (I'm currently finishing up a Cal Wild novella for a Sideshow Press three-author nifty project).
June 12-14 of 09--I'll be at the Stokers in Burbank. SHADOW OF THE DARK ANGEL will formally debut--hope there will be some left by then (check HM or BMB for pre-orders).
August 28-30 of 09--I'll be at ConText in Columbus, Ohio. A TASTE OF TENDERLOIN will debut. Anyone near come and introduce yourselves.
September 17th-20th of 09--I'll be at Killercon in Las Vegas. DOC GOOD'S TRAVELING SHOW will debut. Anything to do there at night?
Enough traveling. Hope to meet a bunch of you folks at one of those spots. Buy a book and we'll have a drink!
A heads up. For those who might have been waiting until the Stokers in a couple of weeks to pick up a copy of SHADOW OF THE DARK ANGEL, wait no more. Liz might verify this, but I don't think they will be released until 6-22 now. I'll still be at the Stokers so say hi. You can still pre-order at the BMB table or check on the site or the HM site--not sure how many are left. So it goes, Gene
I'm hoping Liz and Roy won't mind me plugging my collection, TASTE OF TENDERLOIN, here. It's being released in August by Apex Books and will debut at ConText in Columbus, Ohio on Aug 28-30th. The artist, Steve Gilbert, my son Gav, who does the introduction, and I will be available to sign books. All 8 stories, including the Stoker finalist, "Balance," take place in San Francisco's infamous red light district. Junkie, hookers, winos, cops, and ex-boxers--colorful array. Good price. Check it out: WWW.ApexBookCompany.com or WWW.Horror-Mall.com.
Another date for those in the San Francisco Bay area. Saturday, September 12th at 3:00, I'll be reading and signing a TASTE OF TENDERLOIN. Gav, my son, will be there, too. Drop in if you are around. Gene
Thanks for the feedback, John, important when so few copies go out. Glad you liked "Ghost Town." I'm hoping all the lettered collectors liked it. Best, Gene
As of the moment I am definitely signed up and plan on attending the Stokers affair in Burbank June 11th-14th(health issues under control--I hope). My only commitment is a signing at 12:00 on Saturday with Joel Sutherland. Bring anything you want signed and say hello. I think there may be a few copies of the limited and lettered editions of LOST TRIBE available at the Bad Moon Books table. They will also be taking pre-orders for SHADOW OF THE DARK ANGEL which should be released around the end of the month. And of course it might be entertaining watching me sweat and agonize at the Stoker awards banquet. Yeah, yeah, yeah... it's great to be a finalist and all that company line, but of course one can't help having delusions of grandeur. Gene

I'm not big on short stories, but there are a couple writers who seem to write a lot of good ones. One enjoyable story after another. Burke, McBean and now O'Neill.
Thanks Slim! John: I think it's great that you are digging the short stories in the old collection. I think I've got a lot better--technique-wise--but like most writers, good readers can spot something interesting even in early work.I, too. though the Sargasso Void was good enough to include in a subsequent collection.
Had a good time at the Stokers, met a lot of old friends, made some new ones, signed/sold a lot of stuff on Bad Moon Books table. But perhaps the most significant deal was a brief meeting with an apparently hot young agent, Bob Fleck. He has THE BURDEN OF INDIGO AND THE CONFESSIONS OF ST. ZACH in hand. If those pieces of work grab him, we're talking representation. I like him--eyeball-to-eyeball. had fun with Nanci, the owner of this site--she is a good sport.
Nanci: Visiting with you for a few moments was indeed a highlight at the Stokers bash. You are funny, attractive, and a great sport--always a hit for any grouping. I actually have an unusual number of traveling commitments upcoming--ConText at the end of August, and Killercon in September, along with a book signing at Borderlands Books in San Francisco in September. Maybe our paths will cross. Best, Gene
Being a hopeless braggart I couldn't help posting this *starred* review from Publisher's Weekly about my upcoming collection. As you all know, our genre rarely gets mentioned, much less a starred review. The only other one under mystery, fantasy, sf, and horror is a novel by James Ellroy. So I'm stoked. Gene
Taste of the Tenderloin Gene O'Neill. Apex (www.apexbookcompany.com), $13.95 paper (164p) ISBN 978-0-9816390-0-0
Haunting, lyrical and often uncomfortably realistic, this slim collection of eight short stories plunges the reader into the darker side of San Francisco. Altered states of consciousness-minds changed by grief, chemistry or too much hard living-are everywhere. In "Magic Words," an advertising executive pays a homeless woman a high price for transient success. Poignant and plausible almost to a fault, "Tombstones in His Eyes" twists the horrors of drug addiction into something harder, sharper and scarier. In "The Apotheosis of Nathan McKee," a brokenhearted father's descent into insanity-or is it merely invisibility?-makes normalcy seem all too tenuous. The best story of the bunch, "5150," documents the final moments of a worn-out cop about to retire. O'Neill's deft, authentic prose resonates with the weight of sad reality, erasing the line between knowledge and fear. (Aug.)
As it turns out I've expanded one of the stories in the PW review into a novel, NOT FADE AWAY. A number of agents read the PW review and are interested in NFA. One has read it, liked it, and offered me representation. I'll sign the agreement next week. Then we'll see if he sells it to the mass market. Stay tuned... Gene
