What is everyone reading?

I finished Mad Dogs by Brian Hodge the other day. It is a crime novel rather than the typical horror the author is know for, but it is also the best crime novel I've read in 2008 so far.

In short it is about a fringe actor whose most recent role was a robber in a TV reenactment for America's Most Wanted Criminals. Unfortunately a drunken deputy sheriff mistakes him for the real robber and attempts an arrest, drops his gun, and accidentally kills himself. A store clerk hears the gunfire, sees the deputy on the ground, and naturally comes to the conclusion that he should take out his own gun and return fire. Things only get worse from here.

Beforehand, for some reason, I thought it would be more bleak and gritty noir, but there is a lot of black comedy, a little like Carl Hiaasen for its innate nuttiness but in Arizona instead of Florida, I really liked it. I've ordered Hodge's other crime novel Wild Horses from Amazon.

Right now i'm reading First Patient by Michael Palmer(i know not horror) but i can't find horror books at the bookstore anymore.

Tt,i'm in the leisure book club but those books i read them like in one or two weeks so after that i don't have any more books ( i don't have a tbr pile) and i just remember i'm reading Fires Rising by Michael Laimo,i always read two books at a time.

That is right. It was great. Just before that there was a priceless scene in the kitchen with the bacon grease. It is one of those books that you can not help but laugh, but then you realize you might be slightly deranged for the things that you are laughing at. I think that is what makes Laymon so good for me. He targets our most basics instincts and turns up the heat.

I am one of those people that tends to cheer for the bad guy all the time in movies and books. I knew I was nuts when I was watching Star Wars as a kid and everyone wanted to be one of the good guys. Me...I would take Darth Vader any day. Join the dark side...pfff....I am already there...

Anyway, I was reading a few reviews on the net on this book and everyone was picking on Albert. How bad and despicable he is in the book and how can Laymon dedicate most of the writing through his eyes.

IT IS A HORROR BOOK!

I find that Albert is the glue to the entire book. Why should he not dedicate all his time to this character. I have not complaints in this book, with the exception that the pacing is a bit slower than his typical novel. It is not necessarily a bad thing, just different from what I expect from him.

yeah cuts was great, a really brisk and fun read, and i loved the ending that was a wicked ending. next i'll be starting wizard's first rule, sam raimi is making this epic fantasy into a tv series so i wanted to check it out.

WIZARD's FIRST RULE by TERRY GOODKIND? Aw, dude...you are going to love it if you like fantasy! One of my favorite epic series in the genre.

I will take THE SWORD OF TRUTH series over WHEEL OF TIME any day, especially since JORDAN has left us now.

Brilliant stuff. I just have the final three left in my TBR still to get to. You are going to have a blast.

yeah i read the first wheel of time book and i was just bored with it, my favorite modern epic fantasy series is george rr martins Song of Fire and Ice, I just wish the books would come quicker.
