Had the worst time yesterday, hunched over the computer in a cold room, trying to remember how to build a basic 'place marker' web page. So much I'd forgotten, and I spent hours klutzing around and swearing like a sailor, wrestling with something that in the past would have taken me about half an hour.

Finally got out of the chair and could hardly stand up straight (partly due to a mild hamstring pull after dodging cat puke on the floor the day before... thank you Miss Havisham), which was great because I had fencng class - a lesson on Spanish Destreza followed by free rapier fencing.

Got to class, made it through the lesson, donned gambeson, gorget, mask, Darth Vader gloves and whatnot, picked up my dagger and rapier and prepared to get my arse kicked.

I got my arse kicked and have the beginnings of some spectacular bruises. However, our instructors voted one of my (and my partner's) bouts the best of the evening. So maybe there's life in this old buzzard yet.

Now if I could just get this fucking web page to work.

My roof is leaking really bad. The maintenance guys "tried" to fix it. Spraying primer on the ceiling is just cosmetic. It is raining. My only consolation: I am warm while it rains in my bedroom. Once the office opens, I will have to go in and inform them that I am withholding the rent until such time as the roof gets fixed.

Maintenance was shocked by how bad my room is. The water damage stretches from the right wall (as you stand in the doorway) and is about a foot from my closet (which is on the left hand side). It's a good 12' by 6' patch right down the center of the room. At the rate it's going they may be paying for our move into another apartment. They've called the roofers but they can't do anything until it quits raining, which won't be until Tuesday. I may not have a ceiling at that point.

Nothing is helping. I listened to Christmas music for the past two weeks. I shopped. I just don't freaking care this year. I am not sure why but I just don't. It is kind of freaking me out because I really honestly do like Christmas. The only decorations in my house is my tree with nothing under it and TT's cute Christmas people

We have year-end inventory at work every year right around Christmas, so for the past 9 years, what Christmas means to me is it's about to get REALLY busy at work. That, and I fucking HATE the cold and snow. I wish Christmas was in July.

I MISS year end/year end inventory. Freezing cold, but no traffic on the roads. Able to dress casually. Crawl in at whatever time with whomever I've managed to bully into turning up, so we can get year end prep done. Factory heating is off, so there's the obligatory screaming row with the chief engineer about whose budget gets tagged for portable heater rental (his usual diatribe "Don't see why I have to pay to keep you office bastards warm!"), which is great because both of us have hangovers. Trip down into the factory, see how inventory is going and pick up stock sheets. Try not to fall on my arse in the ice-covered yard. No phones ringing, which means we can get twice as much work done. Lunch paid for. Christmas party aftermath gossip. Laid back atmosphere. Drive home, still no traffic, happy knowing we've got a good running start on the utter horror that is year end in the Accounts Dept.

They've finally this last year implemented the daily count routine they've been trying to get in place for me the first 8 years. So I've been doing daily cycle counts all year, which means this year the inventory better go quick and it better be right, or else guess who is going to get blamed. For my part, I did what I could. It's up to the material handlers to put shit back where it goes. We'll see.

Had to do some last minute shopping in various stores. Busy as all hell and gods, people were rude. All the pushing and shoving, and "You there!" some imperious bitch yelled at me, thinking I worked there. No bloody need for that, Madam!

My sympathies to those of you working retail. You'd think your customers would be a little more patient and understanding, with the crowds and such. Mais non. We're a bunch of obnoxious hooligans by all accounts, and rude as all get out.

Getting back to work tomorrow. Not work, work, but commitment work. I did manage to relax these last two days and read some and work on my Magnum Opus. I'm very tired though, haven't been able to sleep well with my shoulder still bothering me. I went to the doctor today and he told me he thought I would need another operation, maybe this time not orthrosocpic (sp?) but cutting it open the old fashion way. I'm usually in a lot of pain every morning when I wake up and I'm tired of it. I need to see some specialist first. It sucks, but when I look at other people's problems I think I don't have it so bad. Snow blowing two driveways and shoveling the deck and the roof over the deck didn't help matters much today. On a lighter note, I opened my copy of Rick Hautula's, Indian Summer, and saw that the entire book was dedicated to one person...our own Kurt (Dathar)! Kurt is a wonderful, giving man, and he LOVES Rick's work, so I thought it was cool that Rick dedicated the book to him. On another note, I finished Janet Holden's, Carousel, and loved it! A great combination of horror and world building that felt fresh and atmospheric. Janet knows how to write horror (though I am not a fan of sex scenes in novels, she had one in here that got my attention) and fantasy. Starting to ramble, time to go...

I tried to buy Carousal on Amazon and couldn't find it. I guess I have to go figure out the hard way.
