Post subject:  What Are The Scariest Settings?

I'm tempted to say all settings are scary to me but that's because I'm a wimp with an over active imagination. So I'll narrow mine down to...to as few as I can :)

1. Secluded forests. First there's the whole secluded thing which means if anything nasty happens no one is likely to know or help. Second, secluded forests are a common dumping ground for corpses. Which means you run the chance of either finding a corpse or catching a killer in the midst of burying one...neither is fun in my book! Not to mention all the critters that can lurk there unknown to humans...

2. The Water. For the same reasons as the secluded forests only deeper.

3. Houses. This is for a few reasons. The first is the home is considered a sanctuary - someplace safe. But is it? From the stats I've seen from law enforcement agencies more assaults and murders take place in the home than any other place with outbuildings (on your own property) ranking a close second and then public areas trailing a distant 3rd. The very idea of a killer/critter or hostile entity invading the homespace is chilling. Second, although I think a lot of places can hold memories I believe houses are more prone to this than any other place. Kind of creepy...

What are the top scariest settings to you?

1. Raven's house. The reasons should be obvious.

2. A new home, somehow they always seem weird and set me on edge. Same for visiting someone else's home the first time or two.

3. 3 AM in the ghetto. Because you know you're setting yourself up for something bad to happen, but you're there anyway.

1. Hospitals. I've really no idea why, but hospitals have always freaked me out to no end.

2. Big crowds. The larger, the worse. You never know who really are lurking among all those people... and what they're going to do.

3. Houses. For the same reasonings as Raven... plus I reaally don't like to be cooped up inside four walls all the time.

Dranak,

love that avatar!

scary places:

1) North Carolina Back roads. Hot summer evening, just saw the texas chainsaw massacre.

2) abandoned cabins in the middle of the woods

3)by yourself in a subway station at midnight.

4) The canals of Amsterdam or Utrecht, should you fall into them and have to swim among the sewage :x

Rutger Heuer (blade runner guy) claimed to have grown up doing that.

The avatar fits him too :)

Rich - old Texas Chainsaw or new? I've been holding on seeing the new one and wondered if it was any good.

I think it's very interesting that none of the traditional 'scary settings' showed up here - like cemetaries. I like cemetaries, they're quiet and hardly anyone is ever around. Most of them are pretty - out here we have rolling hills so you have the hills and marble/stones mixed with trees.

What do you guys think of 'traditional' scary places? Do they bug you or...?

Done well, they're okay. A lot of people seem to rely on "Oooohhh... It's a traditionally scary place/thing! I bet you're afraid now!"
