It took some time in reading as I digested the stories one at a time.

First let me say that I read a lot of ghost stories. Because I do many of them seem alike - different names and places but the same story. But Haunted Harbours was nothing like those.

That said, Haunted Harbours is the best one I've read. I loved the way you took the basic story and breathed life into it, making all of it - lore, history and the people seem so real. You have the gift of making vivid scenes without using a ton of words.

Excellent work Steve! Thanks for writing it so we can enjoy the tales!

I've just recieved some great news from my publisher, Nimbus.

They've mailed me a contract and advance for a second collection, due out in Spring 2008, centered around ghost stories of New Brunswick.

And, as well, they let me know that they have sold a bulk order of 560 copies of Haunted Harbours to the school system. As of this fall there will be 2 copies of Haunted Harbours in every grade 11 classroom in the province of Nova Scotia.

That in turn means that Haunted Harbours will be entering its second print run. The first print run was about 2700 copies. All sold, all gone.

Hot diggedy.

I start a second series of Haunted Harbour book signings next week, working out of a kiosk at Pier 21, right where the cruise ships unload. I hope to sell many more copies yet.

You must be extremely proud! Is Wicked Woods doing as well as Haunted Harbours when that one first came out?

Maybe you'll have time to do one for New England some day. I would think Portsmouth N.H. , Portland Maine, and the Rhode Island coast would be prime material for a book like this.

Though with the amount of research you do it would seem unlikely now that I think of it. And...I think you've got a lot more of Canada to cover in the future.

Good luck Steve, crossing my fingers for Gypsy Blood to arrive soon.

I'm not sure how Wicked Woods is doing, actually. I won't get a royalty report on it until October, but I'm certain it's selling well. I sold 34 copies of it at a signing two weeks ago as well as 19 copies of Haunted Harbours. I believe both of them are going to do just fine. I'm even more confident in the third collection which will be out next Spring.

A New England collection? I'd have to find a publisher interested first, and it would take a lot of research, but you never know.

Actually, I have just placed a story in an upcoming collection of short short New England ghost stories. NORTHERN HAUNTS from Shroud Publishing.

Preorder here.

I never thought, Ttzuma, but you might want to take a shot at writing something for the anthology. It's still open for submission, as far as I can tell. Check out the submission page at that same link.

Thanks for the good words boss.

Steve, I plan on grabbing Wicked Woods and Haunted Harbours so I can read them on Halloween night.

So far I have most of your stuff on the way to me. And Roy over at Bad Moon Books was one hell of a cool guy to deal with. Got Spam and Packrat coming from him.

My credit card has The Mighty Vernon written all over it: :x

I have just returned from my publisher's office. I've signed a contract for a follow-up to Haunted Harbours, due out this fall.

He also let me know that Haunted Harbours is one of the first dozen Nimbus books to be translated into e-format for the Kobo. No time frame yet, but I will keep you all posted.
