I just mailed the paperwork to SOCAN () after they accepted my application for songwriter! It's official! For those not familiar with SOCAN (and ASCAP) it's a professional songwriting/performing recognition, and they "ensure that music creators and publishers get paid for the communication and public performance of their music in Canada." G has been a member since 1996, so we know the dealio very well. I'm very excited.
I figured, what the hell, being part of TWO creative industries should be double the fun, right?
On that note (pun intended) G and I have started and registered our own music publishing company, P.I.C. Publishing. I just put up a little, basic site with our logo and info about us.
(This also means that when royalties get split up between artist and publisher, we get both halves since we don't use an outside publisher.)
