Thanks for the kind words! Sadly, there are no plans to reprint any of those books -- that's the small press world of limited print runs and expanded collector prices. As for Oz, I actually meant to say the stories are novelettes, not novellas -- so sad, when the mind starts to go.... Hope I have time to write a few more stories before it goes completely!

Hi, Gerard. I just started reading The Beast That Was Max, and your writing is blowing me away. All the great things I've heard about the Max stories are true.

Can't wait to the read the next two in the Max trilogy.

Oz Suite looks really good, and I have ordered that, also.

Do you have any plans to ever write a full scale epic? Something along the lines of a six or seven hundred page novel?

In any case, you've gained another fan with me. I plan on hunting down all your work and devouring it.

Thanks, and keep writing, Mike.

And I just picked up Painfreak as well as the Oz novella.

That Horrordude guy above me is in for one hell of a treat. I loved The Road From Hell just as much as I loved The Beast That was Max (I liked your middle book, The Road To Hell, but not as much) and I am really hoping that someday there is a fourth Max book. Or at least a novella. Hey, how about a short story? O.K, I'd settle for a mention in one of your other books, but you can't let Max go....can you?

Hey guys -- I appreciate the kind words!! No plans for a gigantic Max epic -- after all, who would publish it? I look at the three books as one big epic, anyway.

There is more Max on the way next year -- 11 more original stories and a 30k novella, Dancing With the Skeletons at the Feast of the Dead (various styles and levels of energy, the batch making a kind of a 12 labors of Hercules for a demon-possessed assassin). They'll be part of a larger collection of reprinted "killer" stories.

There's obviously something appealing about the character since I keep coming back to him. But I find myself going to different stages of his development -- the Beast books were one long turning point for him; the twelve stories coming out next year follow his adaptation to civilization (thus, the labors of Hercules) over his pre-Beast career; and maybe someday I'll explore what happened to him after the Beast books (when, as the lone Amazon.com Road from Hell review comments, he's been turned into an "emo kid" -- gonna have to use that one).

Some folks dig his penchant for mayhem, others his slivers of humanity. I have fun with the conspiracies, supernatural connections and upwellings, and the generally cynical and dark world view. He's not for everybody, that I've learned! But I'm glad some folks get something out of the stories.

Brice McVicar did an interview with me for Rue Morgue - should be coming out in January. they gave Road From Hell a terrific review, hopefully they won't think the new collection sucks!

Thanks again!

Thanks Gerard. Are any of the stories in Painfreak part of the new collection? You said original so I am assuming they are not.

As for publishing another Max tome, have you tried to seek a publisher? Maybe Shroud, the guys (Tim Deal) that did such a great job with Pic's "All You Despise" might be interested! Heck maybe even Boarderland Press! If you own the rights, maybe they could do a really neat boxed set with the prior three books!

I look forward to anything you come out with, and I have Visions Through A Shattered Lens coming soon, Pic recommended that one and I can't wait to read it.

(And this has got nothing to do with nothing, but Steve Vernon has a new novella out also called Leftovers, I bet you'd enjoy that one.)

Hope you enjoy Visions! Between Visions and the Max stories, you'll run the gamut of the kinds of stories I like to tell, that's for sure.

The new collection will be roughly half reprint and half original, with the new stories focused on Max and his "early" years. No stories from Painfreak, though it does make an appearance.

As for sets of Max books, it doesn't look like that's meant to be. We'll see what 2010 brings in terms of opportunities for more Max.

Steve's latest is certainly generating a lot of buzz -- I'll make sure to pick up a copy! Thanks for the recommendation!

thanks as well for your support and your interest -- good to know somebody out there's reading this stuff!

The Oz Suite was a darn good read, if I do say so myself. No We Love No One was my particular favorite.
