Hi – it’s been a while since I’ve posted any publishing news, so here goes…
Crossroads Press is re-releasing much of my older work in ebook format and plans on releasing new material. There are also a couple of audiobooks in the works. Available now:
The Beast That Was Max (http://www.amazon.com/Beast-That-Resurr ... 323&sr=8-2 )– first book in what I now call the “Resurrection Cycle,” this begins Max’s journey of redemption. For those of you who are new to my writing, Max is an assassin working in the borderland between shadowy government conspiracies and a world of vengeful ghosts and evil gods. Max’s skills, as well as his dark desires and murderous impulses have always been enabled by an inner demon he calls the Beast. But that relationship is endangered when Max discovers his own humanity through a connection with a pair of supernatural twins. Though he know he must silence the Beast to reclaim his humanity, sacrificing his inner demon will make him the target of the spirits of his past victims.
This re-issue features an original Max novelette, Tree of Shadows.
Coming up in the Cycle will be re-issues of Road to Hell and Road From Hell. Each re-issue will feature an original piece.
Max stories, pre-Resurrection Cycle, also comprise about half the work in the collection A Blood of Killers, which will also be re-released.
Coming up is an original Max novel, pre-Resurrection Cycle, and another original novel related to one of the fantasy elements from Road to Hell (but without Max) – the Caravan of Death – are scheduled to be released.
Also available right now is my first novel, The Bard of Sorcery (http://www.amazon.com/The-Bard-of-Sorce ... 6TWVU5XWC2 ) has been released as both an ebook and Audible Audio edition. This is a dark heroic fantasy about, of course, a bard attempting to escape a destiny he fears.
This reissue also features an original dark fantasy story, “Ghost Sword of the Heart.”
I have an original story, “NOK,” in the Crossroad Press anthology Tales From The Crossroads volume 1. See the last post for the full rundown.
In other news . . .
Relatively recent (in terms of this board, at least) and notable reprints include “The Other Box,” from Strange Tales 3, in Prime Books’ Best Dark Fantasy and Horror 3, and “Painfreak,” from Dave Barnett’s old magazine Into the Darkness and my first horror collection by the same name, in Comet Press’ Necro Files.
New fiction appearances (aside from the free stories above) since last we spoke include “The Informers,” Chiaroscuro, Volume 47, week 10 (no longer online, but I’m sure it’ll show up in a collection some day); “Mourning With the Bones of the Dead,” in Cutting Block Press’ Horror Library 4; “The Flea Market,” in the Eibonvale Press anthology Blind Swimmer; “Lightning Can't Catch Me,” Darkness On The Edge: Dark Tales Inspired by the Songs of Bruce Springsteen; one of my personal favorites, “Dead Medicine Snake Woman,” in the Akashic Noir anthology series’ Indian Country Noir; and “ In the Light of Dying Fires,” Blood and Devotion: Tales of Epic Fantasy from Fantasist Enterprises.
All anthologies are, of course, still available from their publishers or your favorite book seller.

Occasionally, people have said some kind things about my work.
“ . . . Gerard Houarner's "Dead Snake Medicine Woman" (Indian Country Noir ) will shake you up.”
Bill Cider’s Pop Culture Magazine (online)

Anton Cancre wrote a long piece a while back on The Oz Suite for Horror News you can check out at
http://horrornews.net/21606/book-review ... -houarner/
Horrorworld’s own T.T. Zuma also said some nice things about The Oz Suite a while back, but it’s not up on the site anymore so you’ll just have to take my word for it.

As for reader reviews, a number of writers have been asking folks to post their opinions on retail sites like Amazon and BN, as well as places like Goodreads and LibraryThing. The new electronic marketplace seems driven as much by reader ratings as by reviews on sites like Horrorworld and blogs.
And, in a provocative genre like horror in particular, some readers may have strong negative reactions because horror isn’t really they’re thing. So if you enjoyed a book, if it stayed with you for a little while, take a moment and give it a rating and, if you have time, write a brief review. If you’re passionate about a particular writer or book, definitely take the time to express yourself. And, if you have an issue with the work, fair’s fair. So it goes.

Oh man, it is so GREAT to see you back writing Gerard! But I'm a little miffed, all these free stories in the Max books and I already own copies of them, damn! I am hoping that you come out with another anthology (hopefully with Crossroad Press, they are great!) with these and the other stories you mentioned. A Blood of Killers was great (also reviewed here in HorrorWorld) and I would love to read another collection from you!

I did pick up The Bard of Sorcery from Crossroad Press also.

The world needs more novels and short stories from Gerard Houarner!!!
