The next story for me to comment on is Was It Worth It?

Like my own story, I think another three to four-hundred words, and a couple re-writes, would turn this already good story into a really great one.

The story itself had me squirming a bit ... the whole nail near the balls thing. :o

Well done.

Next story: Grandpa Joe

:< The guy who wrote this should have his ass removed! :<

Come on ... I had to rip on my own story.

Okay, so I'll probably ramble on here, but oh well.

I was all excited about looking at the stories Monday, but Kellie and I were both off and decided on an impromptu trip to Columbia, Missouri (about 2 hours away). We, along with Emma, drove around the Mizzou campus, I showed her where I used to live, we had dinner, and went to the Columbia Mall (which has a Barnes & Noble). By the time we got home I never had a chance to get on here.

Tuesday, we had a ton of chores to do because Kellie's brother and his girlfriend were coming over for dinner. While I was out taking some things to the recycling center, I dropped by the library for about 10 minutes just so I could peek at this thread.

I probably would have never noticed part of my story was missing if it weren't for Ttzuma and Jazminsdaddy.

First, Ttzuma said For some reason, a crazy lover killing another gives me goosebumps. I thought, "But nobody kills anyone in my story." :?

Second, Jazminsdaddy said he thought Overall though, it was fairly predictable, which is fine, except I thought "While I don't necessarily like some things in my story, I thought I gave it a nice twist ending."

So I went and checked and noticed what happened. If that had actually been the ending, it would have certainly been predictable. And I most likely would have never sent it in.

However, I think the glitch was my fault. I'm a strange cat, and I like typing my stories in WordPerfect. However, I have to make sure I save the files in Rich Text Format, or else they get all screwed up. Ask Tony about some of the stuff I've sent him. I'll usually email the .rtf file to myself, open it in Word at work, then attach that to an email if I send it to someone. Which is a long way of saying something probably got screwed up by the time Laurel got it.

Anyway, I'm excited about going back to read all of these and comment as I go along.

Here's a shot of Ttzuma hard at work on his next review for Horror World.

Ten Penny Nails: good job of getting the anger and emotions across in this story. I liked it. With more character development it would be stronger-But still, a 'well done' goes out to the author.

As far as the word count debate, I think we should just throw in another 250 words only. This way it's not too much, and not too little. I've submitted to publicatons with 1200 word limits on short fiction, and I don't think another 250 will hurt.

If you keep getting higher on the word count, then you just wind up saying, screw it, make it 2000.
