I was reading all of these topics about editing and how much we all detest it, and I thought we needed a topic on "funniest edits." I was recently editing my latest novel, The Desert, before sending it out for a full MS request. I was quite sure that it was completely edited, with no goofs, but had this feeling that I ought to check it out again before hitting the "send" button. I found that you should always edit in sequence, and read the story over again before submitting. You see, I repeated the exact same scene in the story, about 15 pages after it happened the first time. Apparently, I forgot that I had actually written it down the first time, and rewrote the entire scene a second time. Since I had been editing chapter by chapter, and they were in different chapters, I never noticed the repeat. I'm glad I checked that one again. |

I always read from start to finish. Dude, did you write it better the second time? I always find, once I finish a draft, how much different the character's evolved and developed in my head, so much so that I have to go back and change everything. Once had a man turn into a woman, but I definately caught that one on the first proofread. |

All I have to say about that is, thank god I don't dream about writing. My dreams are usually weird things that happen in a strange city. I tend to be a lucid dreamer too, but half the time what I'm dreaming about is too messed up to be considered close to reality. |

One time I gave a manuscript to a friend that was missing an entire chapter. And to make matters worse, it was a very important chapter. The climax of the second act, really, with major events that reverberated throughout the third act. She was very confused. |

Back in the days of Dot Matrix printing, I once tried to conserve paper but not tearing the track holes off. I wrote a poem for my college writing workshop reusing that same sheet of paper, and forgot to cross out the rough draft on the other side. My prof mistaked the older much more suckier version for what I was submitting that week, and had it photocopied for the entire class. |

I wrote a story and there was a corpse in it, and each time I wrote about it I accidentally messed up the gender. If I only had a brain. |
