There are several books or chap books that contain the "Header" story or a version thereof; some with different names. Do these run in a series that should be read in certain order or are any of them the same story? I have listed the works that I know of below.

1995 - Header (Necro _____?)

2002 - Header - in Sex, Drugs and Power Tools (Necro)

2009 - A Header Tale (Camelot chapbook)

2009 - The First Header (McGuire chapbook)

2010 - Header 2 (Camelot forthcoming)

Are there others or are any of these contained in other works? Can someone here help put this in perspective for me? Thanks in advance ....

Alright man, here's the run-down:

The original Header story was a stand-alone chapbook first released in 1995. It was later re-released (but still exactly the same story) in a novella collection (with 2 other novellas, The Pig & The Horn-Cranker) titled 'Sex, Drugs and Power Tools.

'A Header Tale' was given away to anyone ordering the Header dvd over at the Camelot bookstore. While it's not directly involved with the original Header story, it's kind of in the same world so to speak. The same goes for The First Header, which sort of shows the origins of where a header came from. That was given away/sold to get people pumped for Header 2, which is now up for pre-order.

And Header 2 takes place 15 years after the events of the original story to the relatives of the main characters, Travis and his grandfather.

So in conclusion, it would be nice to read the original first but I don't think it's necessary for you to enjoy Header 2. And the other 2 stories can be read anytime you want, they're just good fun. Last but not least, Lee's newest chapbook, You Are My Everything also involves headers and whatnot. So there you go. Hope that was helpful enough for ya.

Ed has that THE FIRST HEADER is a "sneak peak" at HEADER 2, so I assume it's the prologue or maybe a chapter from HEADER 2.

I'm going to get Header 2. I've not read Header, as far as I know it's not available, but I own the DVD so I use that as my reference point for the original.

Using the DVD works. It is very close to the written story. Much of the dialogue, if not the majority, comes straight from the novella. I had a couple minor quibbles with the movie, but all in all it was right on!

Additionally, there's a sequel to A HEader Tale that Camelot is doing as a promotional gig. Yes, The First Header is a scene from Header 2 which works pretty well, I think. And I can also promise an upcoming novella that extends Headers...pretty creatively. I wonder if I'll ever get headers, uh, out of my head!

Actually, John, the print version of Header doesn't have much that the film doesn't (save for a whole bunch of semen, and the "loogie" scene). As for the Bighead script (which I was allowed to tweak) you're right in that BH's thoughts aren't translatable but if the project was shot as scripted, I think it would be brow-raisingly over the top. Knock on wood, however. We'll see. It's coincidental that I just now received a note from the group who optioned it and they say things are still looking good. (Again, knock on wood!)
