Today is the day! THE BLACK TRAIN, the kinder, gentler, nicer version of GAST (yeah right) is out today! I want to, once again, thank Lee for the solo dedication to me....may be getting a tatoo to commemorate next week when I am in Cabo San Lucas...THANKS LEE. Let's discuss the book in this thread...I haven't read this version yet but plan to scour the stores today to get one...unless the Kindle version comes out soon. I made an easy url to get the book: http://www.tinyurl.com/theblacktrain
I'm on the fence as to whether or not to pick up The Black Train yet. I have yet to read Gast (it was on my list as being one of the next Lee books I pick up), and I haven't decided which one to read first. I could always go buy it and just hold off on reading it until after I get Gast as well, but I doubt I could exhibit self-restraint for that long. Besides, once I'm done with My Dead Body, I don't have my next read picked out yet. What do you guys think? Which one should I read first if given the chance?
I would say get Gast while you still can, because it's limited and once they're gone, they'll be hard to get ahold of. Then, read it if you like, or read Black Train first, then Gast and see what the differences are. Either way, pick up Gast while you can still find it.
Oh, and wouldn't you believe it. NONE of the bookstores near me have Black Train in stock. Looks like I'll be making a 53 mile trip one way to the big Border's this weekend.

Picked it up today. I have gast and read it, and it was awesome as always! I am crying in my beer that Lee did not acknowledge me for Black Train. Glad he mentioned Nick and Rhonda from Wild Willy's, though. That rocks! Bob
I finished the book the other day and I still enjoyed the hell out of it. Whether it's The Black Train or Gast, it still ranks up pretty high on my favorite Lee books. And even though certain parts were toned down, I still think it's one of the harder edged books from Leisure. All in all, great novel all the way around. It would be awesome to see a sequel to this.

Thanks very much, folks, for the positive words on BT. Bob, sorry about the BT acks. (Have I put you in acknowledgments before. Damn, can't remember, getting too old. Black Train/Gast is a book near and dear to me; I'll always recall how creeped out I felt writing it. I've got another "haunted house" concept coming up down the road. Later!
Lee, I was just messing with the Acks. You mentioned me in Brides of the Impaler. Forever grateful. It is the story, buddy, that matters, and you always rock. Hope you had a great Halloween. Barbara and I dressed up as a redneck pimp and ho, and it was awesome! Barbara got so wasted she puked all over our new driveway. Gotta love Halloween! Bob
Just finished Black Train about 20 minutes ago. Great quick read but I still like Gast better. Out of all the scenes that got cut, only one confused me because I didn't think it was that hardcore in Gast. Don't want to say which one and spoil it for the fans that haven't yet read it yet. What a great week. Got to read The First Header, The Cyesolagniac & Black Train! The Cyesolagniac was a fucking blast by the way. Oh yeah, Congrats on your Yankees Ed. Maybe some of your good luck with the Yanks will rub off on our lowly 'Skins. It's hard to be a Redskins fan sometimes. I think you should put Dan Snyder in one of your upcoming books!
Nothing can help the Skins, I'm afraid. But the Yankees very much made my sports year. I think I've mentioned this before, but cool smut in future books (HAUNTER, HEADER 2, GOING MONSTERING) makes the stuff cut from GAST look like Sesame Street.
I just finished The Black Train yesterday. Man what a quick read. I'm a fan of the Civil War and loved this history and back story and setting in general. I couldn't put this down, now I guess I have to go get Gast don't i?
I just picked up The Black Train today. I intend to start it as soon as I finish Under the Dome. I'm also planning on ordering Gast when I get paid next week. Looks like I'm set on books for the next few weeks, at least.
I just wanted to say that I was absolutely thrilled when this arrived (Leisure book club), firstly because of the dedication. Secondly Gast is probably my fave Lee book and my husband has never been able to read it because I do not let him touch my Limited editions. Now he is almost through Gast and he loves it. Thanks.

Wifey works for a Pharmaceutical Co. and she sells SAPHRIS in Psychiatric Hospitals ( I am sure I spelled that wrong) and what book was the "crazy" person next to her reading??
Yep...THE BLACK TRAIN.
Wifey was with her Mgr. and couldn't talk or take a pic but she couldn't wait to tell me.
So, my birthday fell on Thanksgiving this year, and my wife bought me (among other things) The Black Train. I open the book up, and I see that Ed acknowledged me in his book! How cool is that to see on my bday? Thanks Ed. That was awesome.
Sweet tat. As The Big Head is one of my favorite books I was thinking I would like to do a tat of that but then I thought better when I realized that I would probably end up having an enormous cock on my body which wouldn't be bad if it was my own cock but seeing as how that is not the case I would probably pass on it.
But truly that is a extremely nice tattoo Liquidnoose.
Bout a month ago I visited a fellow horror reader in New York who, up to then, I'd only spoken to via email. We met at the Barnes and Noble a block or two from her apartment and immediately headed for the horror section. When we came to the L's, we both reached for Black Train. I told her about GAST being an ultra limited Hardback and Black Train being a revised version for the mass market. Long story short, we both left BN w/ a copy. I'm still unpacking everything from the trip and dug out my copy tonight and sat down to look it over. Flip through the first few pages and started noticing names I knew, names of other online Lee fans. Then my own. Shocked. Thanks so much for the inclusion Mr. Lee!! Can't wait to do some Gast/Black Train compare/contrast! Plus, it's set in my neck of the woods and we've got all kindsa weird, creepy shite going on in our backwoods, believe me.
Just yesterday I got the new Header chapbook preordered and still need to finish Trolley No. 1852 and read CYESOLAGNIAC. Thanks for all the great new stuff! I'm eagerly awaiting my copy of the Lovecraft novella from Cemetery Dance!
I've got about 120 pages left in The Black Train. So far it's amazing. I think I might go ahead and read Gast as well though. I know that you mentioned some of it was different in Gast. Was it just the sexual content? Thanks!
Didn't realize my question was answered in one of the posts right above me.
Anyway! I just finished The Black Train today. I have got to say Mr. Lee, this is probably one of the most well written books I've read from you. I absolutely loved the characters and felt like I could relate to them in different ways...well except for Jiff uhhh and a few others. lol
I really loved the ending I might add. I kind of felt like this was a love story in a way as well as brutal and unnerving.
Great book! Fast read and I'd love to see more from you in the same vein as this!
