Thanks for picking it up, Wetbones (btw, it was essentially your suggestion that saved the original title for the hc.) I hope you dig the book!

Later,
Edward Lee

I'm about halfway through Bryan Smith's House of Blood. Good read so far.

Wrath's stuff is outstanding and always over the top. I'll be seeing him at Killer Con in Vegas this Sept. (My first time to Vegas--I gotta stay AWAY from the casinos!)

Best,
Edward Lee

'An American Family' by Harry Crews. Picked it up at the library today and will probably be done with it later tonight or tomorrow morning. I'd never heard of Mr. Crews until today. I highly recommend this book. It's the kind of story that gets to your soul.

The Cannibal Within by Mark Mirabello.

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

I read and iked The Cannibal Within...

Right now I'm rereading some Robert E Howard pulp and some Lovecraft. I don't know why but HPL always turns out to be on my summer reading list.

I have 2 stories left to go in Infernally Yours, and while I'm waiting on Trolley 1852 to arrive, I'm going to read Santa Steps Out by Robert Deveraux. This sounds like one bizarre novel. Has anyone else read this?

I have read 'Santa Steps Out'. It is an entertaining book, but a little bit too much fantasy for me. Let me know what you think. Bob

Flew through Urban Gothic by Brian Keene. His goriest for sure but a bit cliched. Had some surprises that I never saw coming. Can see why he said it was his homage to Lee. Very violent and even had some scat moments that had my stomach complaining. Now I'm trying to finish Lost Souls by Poppy Brite. Had this book for a long time but never really wanted to read it. Not sure if I'll get through it. I'm about half way and don't care about any of the characters or what happens. Well written but kinda blah. I'll take Garton's Live Girls or it's sequel any day if I have to read about vampires. Ever since my two teenage daughters became obsessed with Miss Mormon Meyers, I despise vampires.

Last night I re-read "The Treasure of Abbot Thomas" by MR James (great). On the plane back from Killer Con I finished Urban Gothic which was a gory blast and started Succulent Prey by Wrath and started to get uneasy!

I just finished Frederick Masterman's Season of the Plant. It was everything The Ruins was not: good story, violence, sex, and gore, with killer plants. And of all things, he's a retired Episcopal priest!

Almost done with Tom Piccirilli's "A Choir of Ill Children". Its the first book of his that i've read. His style is pretty different from what I normally read, but i'm digging it.

Been slow at reading lately, Over the summer I read a couple of Keene's books including The Fear Of Gravity. But currently I am reading The Best of H.P. Lovecraft - Bloodcurdling Tales of Horror and the Macabre. Actually I just started The Haunter of the Dark. But so far my favorite was The Dunwich Horror, not really a bad story in the bunch though.

Black Glass by John Shirley, which is a cyberpunk story he originally was about to collaborate with William Gibson on in the 80ies but which got held up until he's finally gotten around to writing it now on his own. Pretty cool, really. Starts with a guy who fucks his contract mistress who he's had his own face grafted onto so he can essentially fuck himself. It also has a genetically enhanced midget with an enormous cock called Shortstack and his narcoleptic sidekick Nodder. I get the feeling John has had a bunch of fun writing this.

Has anyone read Satanskin by James Havoc? I'm debating on getting into it, but it looks a little...dense.

Ok taking a break from Lovecraft and switched back to Mr. Lee for a few books. I am currently reading Slither and The Golem and might end up rereading Flesh Gothic. I just turned one of my co-workers on the Edward Lee books. She mentioned she was a horror reader and I gave her my copy of Brides of the Impaler and told her that it was not any where near as gory as the rest of what I have read and she came back having read it in one day and said that it reminder her of an erotic Stephen King and hoped his other books were much gorier, which I reassured her they most definitely are. She was headed to Borders book store and another used bookstore to take a look around and she came back with The Golem (which I promptly borrowed from her as I haven't read it yet), Flesh Gothic and Infernal Angel (don't worry I set her straight and told her to read City Infernal first), but I was syked to find that there is a book store, even if it is 60-70 miles away, that carries Ed Lee books. I also convinced her to pick up a couple of Lovecraft stories. Feel proud of myself for turning someone else on to Mr. Lee's writing who will appreciate it as much as I do.

Finished The Golem. Great read. I actually read most of it last night. About 200 pages in 6 hours. Paying for it today. But completely worth it. Might have to reread a little of Flesh Gothic to keep me awake at work today.

Guises by Charlee Jacob. Bought an used copy of the paperback edition online and it turned out to have stamps and stickers from the Salt Lake City Library. I wonder if they decided to get rid of it and sold it or if it was stolen because even used copies sell for decent money... Anyway, it's kind of surreal to be sitting in Vienna (Austria) and reading a Salt Lake City Library book.

Currently I am reading "The Burning" by Bentley Little, "The Modern Weird Tale" by S.T. Joshi (interesting book though he completely destroys his credibility pretty early in the book ), and "Night Bait" by Edward L -- Oh, I'm sorry, I mean "Phillip Straker."

Today I started my week long Halloween vacation. I got into the spirit right away by reading Trolley 1852, Cyesolagniac, and I'm about halfway hrough Goon. I figure I'll finish Goon tonight, and then tear into Shifters.

(BTW-Does anyone else wonder what creepy things Ed hands out on Halloween? I'm kinda afraid to find out.)

FEEDING GROUND by Sarah Pinborough. It's a sequel of sorts to her previous novel BREEDING GROUND and so far just as great. I wish she'd write more visceral horror like this.
