Just got finished reading Brian Keene's The Last of the Albawitches. Not too bad but I'm still waiting for a full length novel from Keene, feels like it's been way too long.

May start JF Gonzalez's Screaming to Get Out collection next.

My new job has several breaks and not much to do towards them, so I've been able to get some consistent reading in lately. Read Rosemary's Baby, Hell House, and a novelization of Douglas Adams' unfilmed Doctor Who story Shada. All of them were good, though the ending of Rosemary's Baby wasn't the greatest.

Yes, I meant Night Show with regard to the Laymon. Cool and demented. Tonight I'll be rereading MR James; I'm an absolute addict! Btw, I recently bought via Amazon a 6 disk DVD collection of James' stories shot as 50-minute films. It's mindblowing and worth the 50 bucks I paid; has all his gems in it; plus a chapbook inside with interesting minutae about these BBC productions. It's called Ghost Stories for Christmas.

Hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving!

Best
Edward Lee

Just finished The Lost Level by Brian Keene. It had everything I love in a Keene book and more. Like Babaganoosh said, it's been way too long.

Clive Barker - "The Great and Secret Show"- good but too long...
John Everson - "Sacrifice" - awesome
Stephen King - " Joyland", "Doctor Sleep", "Mr. Mercedes" and "Revival" - now is the time for him - every book is true masterpiece
James Herbert - "Others" - Herbert is one of my favourite writers all the time - very, very dark, disturbing... I love it.

Moregore, would love to hear your thoughts on Revival. I thought it was well written but sort of boring and meandering. Maybe I shouldn't have read Mr. Mercedes right before Revival. I thought Mr Mercedes was really good.

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

Mr Mercedes was really good. Right, Revival it's not that good, but it's still better for me than a "Lindsday Story" or "Cell" :)
In my opinion:
1. Joyland
2. Doctor Sleep
3. Mr Mercedes
:)

I think you're mixed up with another Levi adventure Webtones. I think that comes at the end of his story, you know like a thank you from the gods for all his hard work. Nah, this story has some Bigfoot mutherfuckers in it. Ties into that other Bigfoot mutherfucker story he wrote awhile back. Last books I read were Andy Deane's All The Darkness in the World and Jackpot from Sinister Grin Press. Man, that story was a hoot!

Babaganoosh. That's what I did and they gave me free shipping and sent me the e-book for free. I think the paperback ships on the 15th. More Gore, agree with you on the King. I liked Lindseys Story but it was more of a pull on your heart strings ghost story. lol. I haven't read Joyland in quite a while but I remember liking it. Need to find a hardcopy of that one because I think that Joyland and Revival are the only King books I don't have in hardback since 1989. Maybe Staynes has one.

The Lost Level looks interesting but I'm reluctant to cough up $6.99 for Brian Keene as it's been so long since I enjoyed his work.

The Myth of Falling, the new collection by Charlee Jacob. Came out about a year ago from Sinister Grin Press but I only found out about it two or three weeks ago. Frankly didn't expect her to publish anything again after she told me in 2011 that her health had gotten so bad she couldn't even revise things she had already written. Discovering the book was a pleasant surprise in every way.

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

I took a few weeks off reading anything, just to let my brain recover from the inundation of fiction I submitted it to. Now I'm into Depraved by Bryan Smith. Its my first foray into his books and I can already see an Edward Lee influence in there, though maybe its in the content and less in writing style... Lee is just so much more thorough in setting the scene and getting into the characters heads. Like I said, Its my first venture, and Im only on page fifty, so I cant judge yet. Especially not when I have DEPRAVED 2, the limited Thunderstorm release on the way.

Speaking of which, Does anyone have a copy of the first Depraved, Altar 13 hardcover edition they want to sell? If so, let me know, Id be all over it.

Even though I own every hardback in this series, I just doubled down and read the whole Dark Tower Series on my kindle. It sorta pisses me off that I just gave $70.00 to Mr. King, who is already rich, but at the same time, it was nice to read these books without feeling like I was destroying my arms and elbows. Also read a few books by Jonathan Janz. Every book so far has a major Dick Laymon vibe going on. I started with Dust Devils and then read Savage Species, then read Sorrows and now I'm on the sequel Castle of Sorrows. There's a great old school vibe in these stories. Some of them remind of me of Tim Curran because they are almost too descriptive and they always use the word "atavist" in some form or another. Has anyone else read Janz?

Honkytonksmash, you are a lucky man. Great books by great authors. Make sure to get Gast though if you got the extra bucks. It's the hardcore uncut version of The Black Train. Welcome!

It took a while what with having a heart attack and hospital appointments and such. Returning to work and being like the walking dead, reading slipped of my list of things to do but just finished GAST and a really enjoyed it. Ed Lee pulled it off again. A great ghost story that gave me goosebumps like when I read the Minotauress. Southern Amercan charm at its finest.

Now for a few short stories the get me back into the swing.

The Shaft by David Schow. Only the second book of his I picked up after Bullets of Rain some 10+ years ago. No idea why it's taken me so long. He's good.

Reading Monica O' Rourke's In The End, Only Darkness. Really good collection of stories. Aside from reading Poisoning Eros with Wrath, this is my first solo O'Rourke venture. Since I have Suffer The Flesh, I'll probably get to that next.

Conqueror Womb: Lusty Tales of Shub-Niggurath, a killer anthology of Lovecraftian smut that could only have been improved by Ed contributing to it. I just read W.H. Pugmire's WITHIN YOUR UNHOLY PIT OF SHOGGOTHS and got to say that "Come and suckle my witch's tit!" is great pillow talk! Christine Morgan, whose story THE DEFILED garnered some much-deserved praise on here in the past, also has a story in this, which is probably going to be next for me.

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

Recently, I read Finders Keepers by King. The Scarlet Gospels by Barker (I think there may have been a ghost writer involved), very hit and miss. Surrounded by Bastards and The Reborn by Bryan Smith, both better than Slowly we Rot IMO. The Last Town (Pines series) by Blake Crouch. Blind Eye by William Malmborg. Terra Insanus by our man Ed Lee. The Border by Robert McCammon (not as good as Swan Song but still pretty good). Paradise Sky by Joe Lansdale (can't go wrong with Lansdale) and yesterday I finished Skinzz by Wrath, which was excellent! Today I started Wet and Screaming by Shane McKenzie which is a collection and so far it's about fifty-fifty.
