Just received my copy of Mellick III's Tumor Fruit - and I can't wait to dig in!

To the book, not her tumors. Then again, if she looked as good as the chick on the cover....

Just enjoyed Dead Clown Barbecue - Jeff Strand. Love his blend of Horror/Humor.

Also reading David Walliam's RatBurger and Demon Dentist. (I am a Primary Teacher and it's for work)

Gonna start WJW's Succulent Prey or Joe Hill's NOS4R2.

Dead Clown Barbeque HAS to be one of the greatest titles in horror fiction. Wow! As for me I just read The Whistling Room by William Hope Hodgeson, featuring his Carnaki ghost-hunting detective. I think only one of author, Algernon Blackwood has a supernatural slueth before Hodgeson. Hodgeson may have been the first author to have a character use a camera to try and photograph ghosts. Shit, those Paranormal Activity people should at least name a character after Hodgeson. There's a lot of ironic history regarding Hodgeson, namely, he quit writing to go fight in World War One, then got killed just before the war ended. What a ripoff! At any rate, Whistling Room is a great story with lots of stylistic pep in spite of its age and a really hideous "after taste" from the multi-level creep factors.

I've been meaning to pick up THE NIGHT LAND by William Hope Hodgson for a while now. Unfortunately the Centipede Press volume was typo'd to death (with sometimes entire paragraphs missing as well) so I'm still hesitant to pick up any other edition out there. If someone here can recommend a readable edition it'd be appreciated.

I'm chuckling my way through Ed's HAUNTED HOUSE right now.

Laymon is so much fun. Not to mention that he's a great crash course for aspiring writers.

Wow. I hope we don't call lightning down on us. I have made public my lack of interest in reading Gifune and Keene for years now, and got myself trashed and kicked off forums for saying it. I have never found a couple more self defensive writers than those two.
My only purpose at the start was to mention that I had no interest on a particular book, then I would end up with a pissed off author and a pile of toadies jumping me.
Happy to hear other Lee fans have similar tastes.

I just finished DARK GODS, a collection of four novellas by T.E.D. Klein and every single one of them is a winner. I'll have to find a copy of his only other book, THE CEREMONIES, immediately.

Picked up a book published in 1994 by Cahill named TEN TALES. Just finished a Laymon story called THE TUB. I think the Joe Lansdale is calling for me to read it next!

I'm halfway through The House on the Borderland by William Hope Hodgson. Great stuff. There's a reason Lovecraft called this one "a classic of the first water".

Ramsey Campbell's Ancient Images :) Just great!

P.S. JPOKELA - I love Laymon's short story The Tub. This is one and only stuff by Laymon printed in Poland. :( so sad
I must read Laymon's stuff in english.

Just read Tim Curran's Leviathan. Somewhat of a return to form from Curran, although it turns rather formulaic at the climax. Currently reading his Skull Moon.

I tried Carlton Mellick's Zombies and Shit but I gave up at less than 20% and sent back for a refund from my Kindle. It should be illegal to sell such poorly written shit.

Just reading Shane McKenzie's 'Murte Con Carne'. Enjoying it so far. Just got a numbered/signed copy of Addicted to the Dead from Mr Jizzlefinger, super fine service yet again.

Not sure what to read next, options are

Ed Lee's Gast
CMIII Clusterfuck
WJW Succulent Prey

Any thoughts?

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

I would say Succulent Prey, but hell, GAST was one of my faves. That's a tough call. If you haven't read either of those books, I'm jealous. I would love to re read them both not knowing what their about.

I just finished a pile, containing... Survivor (epic, like Gonzalez watched 8mm and said, "I can do this better"). He did. I was blown away by this one. Actually, it was the most realistic book I've read in quite a while, aside from all the John Douglas books. BTK was the last.

Coven- Deadly as usual. This one sat on the shelf for a While, simply because I was reading Header, Portrait, Dahmers, the Chosen and Innswich...

The Chosen was hilarious. Loved every page.

The Innswich Horror?? I can honestly say this book blew me away. I read Shadow over Innsmouth YeRs ago, but re-read it before digging into this one, and man, the spin on that story Lee created was amazing. No wasted words, tight. It was fucking brilliant. I was literally slapping the girl I met out here in Sydney with it, telling her had to check it out, after a certain part on the bus. She is now in her second lee book haha.

Reading Genital Grinder right now (also brilliant) then I'll be digging into a some more McCammon. Probably THEY or Blue World.

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

Currently reading Steve Vernon's Tatterdemon. Vernon can really write funny stuff. The first half of this novel is like reading Joe Lansdale at his best. Deteriorates a bit in the second half but still very enjoyable.

The book has not seen an editor though or if it has the editor was a hack. There's an entire scene that must have been rewritten but the original draft was not removed because the scene is in there twice with slight differences to how it plays out.

Quality of editing is a disgrace these days.
