So Wetbones, how is The Void? I bought it awhile ago, and just haven't gotten around to reading it.

I dug both books but SECRETS OF THE BONES blew me away. It's just so finely written and imagery-stuffed, not to mention delightfully occult.

So after a short hiatus from reading anything good the past month or so, I had finished 2 Brian Keene books (Terminal and The Conqueror Worms) and had nothing good to read until I saw my friend this past weekend, in which I got Brian Keene's Castaways and also picked up Triage and Teratologist and I also picked up a couple of Lovecraft compilations. Never read Lovecraft before and after hearing Mr. Lee and my friend both rave about Lovecraft, my friend handed me two and said to take my time and enjoy which I plan on doing. Kind of like seeing a doctor and getting told take two of these and call me in the morning. I am currently 1/2 way through Teratologist and will be starting either Triage or Castaways today. Teratologist is reminisant of The Bighead in it's gore and depravity, so a big kudos to you Mr. Lee and Wrath James White for an unbelievable piece of work. By the way I think I know who wrote what but the writing is so fluid that it is really hard to tell. Thanks for the great entertainment.

Peace out cub scouts.

I'm currently reading Midnight Grinding and Other Twilight Tales by Ronald Kelly. I must say it is a fantastic collection of horror shorts fried up southern style. Published by Cemetery Dance and has a wopping 32 stories!!!

Probably one of the best collections I've ever read! If you haven't read him before give him a whirl.

Also, I'm reading one from our man, Lee. One his older novels titled Sacrifice. Haven't read much of it(about 30 pages), but so far I'm super diggin' it!

Next up...a small press zombie tale by A.M. Esconde titled The Breathing Dead.

VT: it's ESSENTIAL that you read HPL's "The Rat in the Walls," "The Hound," and "Dreams in the Witch-House!" Or, hell, read EVERYTHING HPL wrote.

TravisD: thanks for picking up SACRIFICE (what a blast from the past). It's actually my first "erotic, Gothic" occult horror novel.

Later!

So after being totally disgusted in the time it took to get anything (Golem wasn't available in the stores here until well into April) I decided to join the Leisure Horror Club. So I have managed to read the last four books they've put out (though I already had the limited of John Everson's survivor). I loved Golem (of course), was a bit disapointed in Bestial and was kind of disgusted with Death Mask, saw the ending coming from a mile away. And now I am waiting for Haunter and June's book :(

DARK HOLLOW by Brian Keene. I quit reading Keene after being thoroughly disappointed by CITY OF THE DEAD but this one here (aka THE RUTTING SEASON) is actually very good. I may have to buy another one of his books after being done with this. I'll have a lot to choose from, it seems. Guy's been busy.

Although, not horror I'm reading The Alphabet of Manliness by Maddox. It's pretty funny. I suggest all you "manly" men read it.

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

I'm about halfway through Night Lust. I had to put it down because the library called to tell me they had found a rare book that I've been looking for.

It's called The Haunted. It's a "true story" about a house here in central Pa., that is haunted. The author is Robert Curran. It's going rather high online, so with it being of a local nature, I asked the library to see if they could track me down a copy. Sure enough, they did.

Although the book was good and had tons of horror elements, I just don't buy it being a "true story". I mean, 2 human raping succubis,a demon that had the power to not only taunt and torment the people in the home, but could also follow them anywhere they went. There's even a part where they tell the demon to communicate with them by "bang once on the wall for yes, and twice for no." Just too much for me to swallow. I'm half tempted to go to the house (which is an hour away from me), and knock on the door and ask them if their house is haunted, and if not, are they aware that the house supposedly was at one time?

The book is from the mid-80's, and was probably hoping to cash in on the Amityville Horror-ish ness of it. They even discuss that case and the home in New York in the book.

Very entertaining, and although it's 260 pages long, the hardcover edition has rather large text, so it doesn't seem like it's that much to read. It just isn't worth the prices it's going for online.

What am I reading? THE NOBODY by Tom Piccirilli was solid. Andy Deane's first novel was readable but too normal for me. Sold quickly on Amazon after I read the first 40 pages. Read Jeffrey Thomas' LETTERS FROM HADES and then BEAUTIFUL HELL and now VOICES FROM HADES. Good writer who tends to get caught up in his descriptions of things but usually quite readable. Finished the first two volumes of NESFA's complete Roger Zelazny short story output. Four more volumes to be published.
Bruce Sterling's THE CARYATIDS was decent enough but lacked the true magic of DISTRACTION or ZEITGEIST.
Tried to read Keene's UNHAPPY ENDINGS. Once again I have no clue what happens at the ending.

Right now, I'm reading Jeff Burk's SHATNERQUAKE. Takl about off the wall!

PS--in MD last wek I reread M.R.James' "Mr Humphryes and his Inheritance" for probably the 20th time. One of my FAVORITE stories! To me, the only more rereadable author is Lovecraft.

Currently reading John Everson's Covenant. This is my first read by him and I'm really liking it. Can't wait to start on Sacrifice next. Thinking about picking up a hardcover of Needles and Sins. Any thoughts on that collection?

Ashes of X Girlfriends and Other Stories by Paul Grenert...a bit disappointing, since the reviews stated it was "similar to American Psycho." But I should have known nothing will top AP haha...

J.F. Gonzalez's Survivor. I'm about halfway through it, and it is MIND-NUMBING. Absolutely horrifying. It's amazing that Leisure put this out. And to think I bought this at a grocery store.

Finished Survivor. Very disturbing indeed. Also, there's somewhat of a tip of the hat in this book to Edward Lee, as the one character does an act that I had read in The Bighead.

I just read, of all thing, Fritz Leiber's THE DEALINGS OF DANIEL KESSERICH, which he wrote when he was very young and corresponding w/Lovecraft. It's Leiber's throw on a Lovecraft story and was pretty cool. I never even knew this existed until recently. It's worth checking out if you're a Leiber/HPL fan.
