Read Tom Piccirilli's stories in DARK FAITH and DARK FAITH, INVOCATIONS. Those are two great stories. Pic is the best. I wish him well.

I'm re-reading a whole lot of Arthur Machen via Centipede Press' MASTERS OF THE WEIRD TALE volume, which is now by far the most expensive book I have ever bought, easily surpassing the limited edition hardcover of Ed's HAUNTER AT THE THRESHOLD. And apart from a handful of annoying typos and formatting errors it's worth every dollar I paid for the book, shipping and taxes. I'm in love with Matthew Jaffe's illustrations and of course Machen at his best (THE GREAT GOD PAN, THE NOVEL OF THE BLACK SEAL, THE WHITE PEOPLE) is still every bit as mesmerizing as when I first discovered these tales.

At the moment, this Cracked article: http://www.cracked.com/blog/the-5-most- ... o-game_p2/

somewhat off topic, but as soon as I saw #2 I started suspecting that someone on this board has a Skyrim habit...

Last night I reread Derleth's Lamp of Alhazred--damn, it wasn't very good this time around, but was still rife with great imagery and atmosphere. Wetbones: that Machen book sounds interesting, maybe I'll get one next royalty check. Since you mentioned MAchen, tonight I'll have to reread Novel of the Black Seal. Later!

I just finished Richard Gavin's latest collection of short stories, AT FEAR'S ALTAR. I became aware of Gavin's work by way of his story GOATSBRIDE, which was one of the highlights of the FUNGI anthology for me. AT FEAR'S ALTAR has plenty of good stories to offer. The opening story, A CHAPEL IN REEDS, is among the most convincing explorations of madness/dementia I have ever read. And I'm sure Ed, being a fellow admirer of Lovecraft's THE HOUND, would get a kick out of Gavin's "epistolary trail" of a sequel, entitled FAINT BAYING FROM AFAR.

Already ordered OMENS, an earlier collection of more short stories from Gavin. This guy is good.

Just finished King's JOYLAND, and thought it was magnificent. Not a horror novel, nor even a mystery really, but more of a coming of age tale. Gripped from page one. I am actually caught up on my to read pile! Now on to re-read Lansdale's By Bizzare Hands. I have to get my hands on some Piccirilli! Bob

Anything by Pic and Landsdale is a great bet. Me, last night I re-read Lukundoo by Edward Lucas White; it's such brilliant pulp horror I almost howled in jealousy!

I am reading Bryan Smith's 68 Kill and Gustav Hasford's The Short Timers (the book Full Metal Jacket was based on; fairly faithful adaptation except the movie ends with about half the book left to go). Just finished Bentley Little's Indignities of the Flesh and Sixty-Five Stirrup Iron Road by default. Almost done with the Smith book on Kindle. Not sure what I'll read on there next. Recently finished the first volume of Brian Keene's short story collection series, which I liked a lot.

I'm reading John Everson's "Needles & Sins". A true masterpiece.
I finished Stephen King's "Joyland". It was awesome.

Just finished Joe Hill's Heart-Shaped Box. It was my first book of his. Thought it was decent, nothing amazing.

Right now I'm reading Horror World's very own Eulogies II: Tales From The Cellar, an anthology which happens to contain my own first-ever published story. It is truly awesome to hold a book in my hands that I am a part of! And I've only just started it, but the first story, by Tom Piccirilli, blew me away.

Then I head out on my jollies with amy Kindle for the first time (not used one before) Loaded up with loads of short story collections Jeff strand 'Gleefully Macarbe Tales' & 'Dead Clown Barbecue' Brian Keenes 'Blood On The Page' Nate Southard's 'Something Went Wrong' to name but a few.

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

I've been reading more of Lansdale's great Hap and Leonard series (Two Bear Mambo, Bad Chili) and also Carlton Mellick III's QUICKSAND HOUSE, which once again proves my theory that his longer books are also his best.

Yesterday I've started reading PREY DRIVE (SUCCULENT PREY II) by Wrath James White. The Leisure edition of SUCCULENT PREY is what got me started on Wrath (the review on amazon crying about too much perversity got my attention) so this is pretty special for me. Also got picked up Wrath's VORACIOUS and THE REAPER and will dig into those soonish.

Just returned from Holiday and while I was there I took my Paperback Ushers and read the tales that Deadite have not published yet, really enjoyed that.

On Kindle I read

Something Went Wrong - Nate Southard, enjoy some of the tale here but was bugged out by all the typos (There was even one in a title)

And A new author to me Jeff Strand - Loved his short story collections Gleefully Macabre Tales and Dead Clown Barbecue.

May start GAST next.

Right now I'm reading The Haunted Mansion Project Year Two, presented by Rain Graves and chock full of horror authors all of whom spent several nights at this creepy mansion in California. The place, of course, if reputed to be haunted and judging from what I've heard verbatim thus far, it IS haunted. It's a fascinating book!
