Just finished "The Awakening" by Brett McBean which was all kinds of amazing. Just started "Some Kind of Fairy Tale" by Graham Joyce.

My friend Brad Hodson's debut novel Darling on Kindle, when I have the chance.

In the world of physical books, I'm reading Night Lust by "Phil Straker."

Just finished Ketchum's "woman", and bonus story "cow", both of which were obviously great!

Currently reading "dead sea" by Brian Keene, and the "Splatterpunk 1" anthology, which I'm liking better than "Splatterpunks II"!!!

I am reading Slither by Mr. Lee and enjoying that. Gotta love those worms.

A child at work told me she had worms yesterday and this book sprung to mind right away. :x

I am a teacher and Kids have no secrets, so parents beware!!! they tell us all sorts of things.

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

This maybe a dumb question but are all the mass market books by leisure and Dorchester highly edited? Like for an example, I have Survivor by J.F. Gonzalez mmp, is the deadite press one better in any way in terms of story, blood, violence, sex? Or are these books the same?

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

As far as I know, the Leisure books aren't highly edited--at least I know what mine aren't. Don't know about Survivor. And for the poor souls reading Phil Straker, when you're done, you'll have a perfectly good window jamb! Last night, I re-read MR James first story, "Canon Alberic's Scrapbook." Man, what that guy was doing 100 years ago was dynamite and ultimately creepy.

Ha, I think you're too hard on the Straker stuff. I remember digging Night Bait, though I can't even remember it very well now. Night Lust was entertaining. I'm glad I finally got to check it out after wanting to for several years.

Ed man, how would one acquire a copy of Night Lust? I looked around, and there's nothing on Abebooks, Amazon's $400+ pricetag for ONE used paperback seemed extreme, and eBay was a bust. If you've still got the rights, any chance we can see an ebook version?

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

The cheapest I could find it was for 65.00 on half.com. Which is crazy since it seems like I didn't buy my copy too long ago and it was only twelve bucks when I did. As for the quality of the Straker books, they're not as bad as Lee likes to claim. There's definitely entertainment to be found in them. haha

A copy of Night Lust just went on ebay a month or two back for 20.00 bucks.

Also, looks like Dave @ Necro is reprinting Sacrifice which is pretty exciting for those who'd love a hardcover.

Re-reading Red Dragon, by Thomas Harris. I figure it's more fun to revisit the book than to watch the upcoming "Hannibal" tv show that doesn't look promising at all.

Just finished Muerte Con Carne by Shane McKenzie. Didn't really like it much. Pretty mediocre stuff.

Now reading DOnald Westlake's final novel, "Get Real". The weakest of his I have read so far.

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

Would I recommend the Straker novels to a newbie Edward Lee reader? No. However, I would recommend them to someone who is an avid Edward Lee reader, or someone who has read a few of his novels. To me, they're not as bad as Ed makes them seem to be. I got both novels a few years ago for decent prices. I liked Night Bait better than Night Lust, and somewhere on this board a few years back I left a review on both novels. While they don't compare to the books Ed has written since then, they are a part of Ed's past that should be looked at, and I feel they should deserve either an ebook or limited re-release.

Any word from Deadite about Pages Torn or Dunwich Romance? My pastiche kick needs to be fixed! I feel incomplete till I read'em.

I just finished Wrath James White's TO THE DEATH and am now reading BLOOD ORANGES by Kathleen Tierney aka Caitlin R. Kiernan. There are also occasional short stories from anthologies like FUNGI and THE BOOK OF CTHULHU.

Wetbones, To The Death was great in my opinion. Wish I could say more but I don't want to spoil it for everyone else. I recently read The Killings by Wrath and J.F. and Pure Hate by Wrath. Both were really good. Also, for pervs like me that are looking for some sex/gore/laymon/lee type stuff I would definitely recommend Satanic Summer by Andersen Prunty and King of the Perverts (although mostly comedy but sick and wrong) by Steve Lowe. I'm currently reading Zippered Flesh: Tales of Body Enhancement. Pretty good so far.

Just finished Island 731 by Jeremy Robinson (a creature feature related to Japan's WWII Unit 731). Now begins the always arduous task of deciding what to read next.

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

I just finished Portrait of the Psychopath as a Young Woman and holy man, what a deadly book. Seriously, every Edward Lee book has left me thinking about it for months and I know this one will do the same. There was OBVIOUSLY a lot of research put into it and the ending was just brilliant. I had passed this one up over the last few months, to read some other Lee books, but it's one of the few that I brought out to Australia with me. I'm doing a masters here, and living in this little cockroach infested room near the university. It's a shithole. I'm so relieved I loaded up a suitcase with books before I left. A bunch of Lee, Ramsey Campbell, Stephen King, Charlee Jacob, Poppy Z Brite, Dan Simmons, Robert McCammon etc. Of lee I also brought Dahmers Not Dead, Going Monstering and The Innswich Horror.

Right now I'm reading Going Monstering...deadly

Since I got here I've read...Stephen Kings on Writing, Kenneth Cooks Wake In Fright (book that the movie was based on) a great book, and Matthew Stokoes Empty Mile.

I'm gonna be here a year and a half so I'll need to get some more at some point. That's the thing that sucked... I have so many books I'm dying to read back home, but, of course, I had to leave them.

I'm going to be making a major order of Dedite Books, which im relieved to find they have here.

I've started reading THE KILLINGS by Wrath James White and J. F. Gonzalez. So far I'm finding it pretty easy to tell who wrote which parts.

Reading Wrath & Monica O'Rourke's POISONING EROS, since it finally got released as an ebook, and liking it so far. Also just read a short story called JASMINE & GARLIC by O'Rourke. It was phenomal, truly disturbing. I'd never read any of her work before.

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

I'm readin Swan Song, by Robert McCammon and wondering why I've never read it until now. Amazing. Will be starting Dahmers Not Dead next.

While I was in LA trying out for the roll of Tritt Balls I hit the Museum of Death. In it they had a copy of the police report one of the cops who discovered all the shit in Dahmers apartment wrote up that same day. Also they had Ed Gein's Signature on a transfer request document, saying that he wanted to be moved to another institution.

My jaw fuckin dropped at that one.

ANANSI BOYS took some getting used to. I was not happy the first time I read it. I was expecting some SUPER AMERICAN GODS WITH EXTRA STERIODS. Didn't get what I thought was coming. I have read Anansi Boys four times now and it keeps getting better. Gaiman is a genius. His short story collection FRAGILE THINGS is mostly horror. Great read.
Portrait of a psychopath. Great novel! Only read it twice! Must be time again.
I just finished Tom Piccirilli's WHAT MAKES YOU DIE. Some of Tom's best work. Quirky and prickly and ultimately.....can't tell ya. This book is just like Tom. Probably an auto-biography from an alternate personality.
I am so enthusiastic about the editing and production values of this volume from Apex Publicaions that I ordered their short story collections DARK FAITH and the follow-up volume.

Last night I reread MR James' Treasure of Abbot Thomas in my wonderful Polish hotel room; but I must say that the story jinxed my sleep from midnight till 4am. I swear I heard a stealthy fumbling at my door (just like the guy staying at an inn in the story) off an on for hours; finally I said fuck it, got up, hauled my dissheveled American clothes on, and went outside the building to smoke!

Best
