Love Philip K. Dick.
Finished John Dies at the End. Cool freakin book.
The thread here about Haunter reminded me of Charlee Jacobs's HAUNTER slash SOMA. Started readng it again. What a trip. This is why I slog through horror. Looking for unbelievable gems like this. What a great novel.

Reading Cows by Matthew Stokoe. Definitely a different novel.

COWS is a masterpiece. HIGH LIFE is very, very good as well. I was disappointed by his most recent book, EMPTY MILE. Not terrible but not up there with the other two.

COWS is on my alltime best list. What a great book! A boy, his mother, and a dog. What story could start in a more simple manner. Oh yeah, throw in a few cows.
HIGH LIFE was written in an entirely different voice from COWS. Very good, but not as memorable. Twisted shit like COWS is sooo hard to find.....

I finally did read Cows. It actually lived up to the hype which is one of the reasons I have been putting it off. Easily enters the top 5 hardcore books I have read.

I'm currently reading You Are My Everything, The Messenger, and Brides of the Impaler from Ed.

I'm reading to/listening to the following from various authors (hey, I like multiple stories at different times, and I can't "read" on the 2 hour commute):

* Assassin's Code by Jonathan Maberry
* The Last Mailman by Kevin Burke
* Swan Song by Robert McCammon

I'm close to giving up on Everville by Clive Barker. I've come to realise that he's just not a very good writer, despite his reputation.

I am going to read Apartment Seven by Greg Gifune then follow that up with some John R. Little.

Reading Like porno for Psychos from Wrath White.
How nice :)

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

Reading The Killing Kind by Bryan Smith. It's silly but fun. Very much in the vein of Richard Laymon, just no use of the word rump so far and more hardcore.

Terrible cover though. I have to place it face down I'm so embarrassed by the cover.

All those Dick novels are great. I really like UBIK. It's wild trying to figure out what is really going on.
Hey Jonah! Glad you finally read COWS! I had to send a copy to Jack Staynes years ago because we were talking it up and he hadn't read it! Fun stuff.
Squeeky, are you reading THE HUNGER GAMES? Huh? Fess up.
Currently still reading SOMA by Charlee Jacob. God that woman is smart. A constant wonder.
I tried reading the latest two releases from Delirium. Wow. I did like Tim Curran's Delirium stuff. Otherwise it has been a constant bewilderment for me. Maybe I am just not smart enough to figure out these novellas. Yeah. That's it. Looking forward to next month and another Delirium release of BRIAN HODGE!!! What a guy. WORLD OF HURT was his last horror novella. If this is half as good as that book it will be twice as good as 9/10ths of.............Uh. Where was I? My head hurts.

"Is it far?" Cheanneary Ry asked.
Shiva answered. "How far is far? The universe being created is far in the past. Destruction is always nearer than you think. Put the two together and they make the distance of a single step, good with blood."
Gotta love that Charlee Jacob. Gotta love her! Quote from SOMA.

I'm still quite partial to her Dread in the Beast. When I was in MD I re-read the "Errol Undercliff" saga by Ramsey Campbell. I'd forgotten how outstanding it is, almost as if Lovecraft had been reincarnated in England in the 60s.

I liked the Great and Secret Show, and Everville. Give the Thief of Always a try as well. While The Thief of Always is kinda childish, it's still a good story.

Although the Barker books would be kinda lame to me now, at the time, I thought Barker was extreme horror. Little did I know what lurked in the shadows....

So, is it The Hunger Games that you're reading or the Harry Potter novels? Maybe the Twilight series? It's okay. We promise to take it easy on you. We're all adults here. We'll be gentle.

The Wind Through the Keyhole. The Dark Tower series is my version of heroin, without having to go through all the trouble of ingesting so much semen to obtain my fix. Merely the standard amount.

Just finished Witch Water for the second time, not many books get a second read but there's something about that story that tugged my black little heart, maybe it's the happy ending!

Next on the list Lights Out by Nate Southard, a vampire invasion in a maximum security prison? It can't be anything but good :v

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

Well, I finished the awful piece of trash I was reading. I'll out myself and admit that it was a John Saul novel *ducks* Even though it's probably about time John was taken to the rendering plant I've always had a soft spot for him. His Suffer the Children was the first horror novel I read at the age of nine, and I've felt compelled to read all his books since then even though a majority of them sucked. This latest, House of Reckoning, was contrived garbage, but I finished it. I'd like to say it'll be the last of his I'll ever buy, but if I see another in Goodwill or someplace like that in the future, I'll probably buy it, read it and then hate myself for it :D

Right now, I'm reading Dark Delicacies III. I'm biding my time with short stories before I tie into my special treat! Author Jordan Krall, who posts on here from time to time, offered personalized, hand-written novellas for purchase. I got mine a few weeks ago, it's called Clunt Bait Rising. As it's my birthday next week, I plan on spending that afternoon in my hammock, fully immersed in rodent-related depravity! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE :D

Happy for you, Squeaky. Sounds great. Krall is cool. Piecemeal June and all that. Read plenty of his stuff!

Lol Squeaky, I purchased one of those Gnostic Gnostril codexes too. I'm still waiting for mine, but its supposed to have something to do with having to weld down in hell. Can't wait to see what Jordan comes up with!
