I am finally getting around to reading my very first Joe R. Lansdale book. I don't know if you guys have ever read anything by him, but I started a novel called the Bottoms.

It is absolutely amazing so far. Highly recommended.

Joe Lansdale was the first author for whom I bought signed/limiteds. I didn't care about the sigs, I just wanted the books now!!!
It's all cool till you hit anything written lately. I think he fell out of bed real hard and bumped his head. Real hard. But I love that guy. Tons of good reads. Freezer Burn. Fun one. The Hap and Leonard series. Great short stories like THE NIGHT THEY MISSED THE HORROR SHOW and STEPPIN OUT SUMMER 1968.
Necro issued a S/L collection of his. Dave Barnett says Joe got ahold of him and told him he wanted him to put something together. Now there is a tough lettered to find! Don't think I have ever seen one on sale. Named THE LONG ONES. Most of this stuff has seen multiple reissues in various collections. Wacky how many times the same stories show up from different publishers in a "new Joe Lansdale collection." Maybe Subterranean can do a definitive collection next!!!
Just joking, man. You got a lot of fun ahead of you. Joe is one hell of a story teller.

Ok finished up Header 2 a couple nights ago. Just when I thought things couldn't get weirder or sicker, they did and then some. It is by far the funniest horror story i've ever read. Great job Ed! Now i'm back to trying to finish up Ketchum's The Girl Next Door.

I finished Coven a few days ago. Maybe I should also read Header 2 some time soon. Got I over a month ago but wanted to finish some other titles before. Currently reading my first J.F. Gonzalez, Secrets. Also halfway through Robert Devereaux's Deadweight and Rex Miller's Slice. And there's still Laymon's Endless Night ... :{

THE GIRL NEXT DOOR. Nothing funny about that one. It kept me sick to my stomach and tense the entire time. Can't put it down, dreading what happens next. Enjoy!!! :{

Finished THE GOLEM last night, absolutely loved it. Started my 1991 Paperback Original of INCUBI, about 60 pages in, amazing so far. I'm impressed with Lee's very versatile writing style. GOLEM and INCUBI could almost be written by different authors. Lee has an excellent ability to change his tone to create a different feel in each novel.

Yes, I've always wondered how much my stype changed in the 10 plus years between those early Berkley books and my new stuff, though I've always had the impression that it's quite noticeable, at least when I'm executing my "mass-market"style.

Later, all!

I started to read Offspring but set it aside to go off genre and read what's gonna be part 1 of a proposed 10 book series by Brandon Sanderson, The Way of Kings. But it's something of a slow read right now and I set that aside to finally finish up Matterhorn.

That's a great read as well!
I'm diggin the hell out of Innswich though. Very Lovecraftion with a distinctive Edward Lee flare.
It's a real nice touch. ;)

Off Season was a book I bought by chance in 1980 cos the cover looked cool; then it turns into one of my all time favorite horror novels and its author becomes one of my best friends in the field. Totally cool!

Currently reading The Pig/The House by Edward Lee. Finished The Pig, and am halfway through The House. I have to ask you Ed, do you really know anyone that sips chocolate syrup through a straw? How did you come up with that?

Loved The Pig one of the most extreme things I've read, if you can make an R rated film out of it and keep at least 50% of the stuff in it I would be impressed, I can't see a way around the penis within a penis sex scene and keep it R rated but i've been wrong before..

No, indeed, regrettably, the P in P scene is not in the script, but there's still some rough still in it. Thanks, all, for your encouraging words about the book and the prospect of a film. It's possible I'll be meeting the with producer down in FL mid-Nov to go over some tweaks. I'll keep ya posted!

Best,

Since my last post i've finished Gast and loved it.I had to read Family Tradition again (3rd time!!).I'm currently reading Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter.

Author:  demonknight80 [ Sun Oct 24, 2010 3:21 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, That title is awesome! Saw an ad a few years back for a film called jesus christ vampire hunter where jesus and his mexican wrestling sidekick fight vampires who are preying on the local lesbian community! Its a real film look it up..

Last book I read was J.F Gonzalez Do Unto Others, well a novella really but it was a really solid story it kept me gripped enough to finish in one sitting. It's a pocket sized book and at first it felt a bit strange reading a book that small but once I was into the story I just forgot about that.

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

I demanded of myself to read THE LIVING AND THE DEAD. Greg Gifune. Delirium Books. Got halfway through it and threw it all the way across the room. I just can't read this guy. I can't read Shane Staley's mind either. What is his direction for his publishing house? Can anybody get enthused for Delirium Books? I just don't freaking get it. Tedious, at best.
So I picked up UP,OUT OF CITIES THAT BLOW HOT AND COLD. Charlee Jacob. Delirium Books. 2003. This is 7 years ago!! What a great book of short stories. She blows me away. What sensibilities she has. Dark as ever. This is when Staley had a vision. Regain it please. The world is not screaming for more Gifune and McBride. Whats the deal, anyway? These guys catch you reading Twilight books and are blackmailing you?

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

The best delirium book i've read would again be by j.f gonzalez, Primitive. I thought that was a brilliant story then again I do enjoy a good end of the world zombie type scenario now and then so I suppose I'm biased in that way.

Just half way through Ed Lee and John Pelan's Shifters, not as over the top (so far) as Goon or Family Tradition but reminds me of some of Lee's older stuff like Succubi and Incubi even including Cordesman post glen fidditch.
