How's this for odd? I recently spent 2 weeks in MD helping my mother out due to health issues. I was there 13 nights. 12 out of the 13 nights, I reread M.R.James' "The Ash-Tree." 12 times? I never get tired of it. I also reread a bunch of HPL. I guess I'm obsessed!

I put horror aside for the brief moment and started reading Hulk Hogan's "My Life outside of the ring". Then once I'm finished it, back to the blood and guts.

Holy shit! I just finished The Depraved by Bryan Smith. That is a seriously FUCKED up book. I absolutely loved it! Bryan, if you read this, outstanding job man. Also flew through Leather Maiden by Joe R. Lansdale a couple days ago. Very good read. Not horror but Joe always brings some gore, suspense and his offbeat brand of Texas humor. Now I'm gonna read the Resurrectionist by Ed's buddy Wrath James White.

I read a lot of books by Jeffrey Thomas recently (Everybody Scream, Health Agent, Unholy Dimensions, AAAIIIEEE!!!) and am now taking a brief break by way of Wrath James White's Yaccub's Curse before I'm heading back into Punktown for some more fun.

I just started Amy Grech's collection Blanket of White and so far, wow, it's grim, provocative, powerful stuff, with some tremendous prose-craft. Lately re-read most of Ramsey Campbell's collection Scared Stiff; even after reading it so many timesin the past, I never fails to blow me away.

And how could I forget? I just finished Jordan Krall's Piecemeal June--this is dynamite. He's a master of the outre. Nobody better than Krall makes the unimaginable more perversely real. Check it out when you can.

Read The Ressurectionist yesterday. The ending pissed me off. lol. I guess it ended the way it should but I didn't want it that way. I forgot I had Piecemeal June. Think I'll read that next. I read it awhile back but it was late at night and I was drinking Crown so I don't really remember much except that it was fucked up in a surreal good way. Thanks for reminding me about that book Ed.

The Beast That Was Max by Gerard Houarner in the Leisure edition that actually collects three of the novellas. Probably the best written genre work I've read since Teri A. Jacob's Secrets of the Bones. I wonder why it took me so long to get around to this one?

Wetbones: indeed both of those books were fantastic. My latest read was Ramsey Campbell's "The Faces of Pine Dunes," his his anth New Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos. I'd forgotten just how great that tale was, one of the best contemporary Lovecraftian stories I've ever read.

Finished Going Monstering the other day. I really loved this one. Thought the ending was pretty cool. Now if you think about it, there's always room for an Infernal story with Ann in hell since she got in. I think that would be pretty cool if it ever happened. Anyway, I dunno what I'm going to read next....

I'm thrilled you liked Monstering, thanks for picking it up. I'm not sure if there'll ever be a sequel but...who knows? Someone else may stumble upon Curwan's bungalow...

Later!

Just finished reading The Black Train. It's Partners in Chyme first, then Splatterspunk next. Slowly finding the missing pieces of my Edward Lee colletion.

"The Dritiphilist" in Chyme, for your amusement, occurred to me ten years ago when I was approaching a bus stop in Seattle and saw a homeless gentleman actually collecting vomit off the street. I simply shook my head and began jotting down notes for the story. My, what an inspiring town Seattle was!

That sounds like tough stuff--I'll have to check it out. I recently re-read (it seems I read it every month!) HPL's tale that he ghost wrote for someone else, "The Diary of Alonzo Typer." It's the WORST ending in the world but perhaps HPL's best development of atmosphere. The ultimate delapidated house tale.

So, knowing how we all love Ed's work, I am going to guess there are a lot of us who are fans of the hardcore. With that being said, I finally came across a book entitled Confessions of the Archivist by Patrick Lestewka.

This is hands down one of the most hardcore books I have ever read. It joins my personal top five of hardcore books with Ever Nat, The Pig, Duet for the Devil and Suffer the Flesh. If you like any of these titles, I would say try to find a copy of Confessions. But I wouldn't leave it out on the dining room table for guests to read. ;)

Yes, indeed, Archivist is one of the most disturbing books I've ever read--some rough, rough stuff!

That is quite a top 5 list you have. For some reason, however, THE DRITIPHILIST hit me much harder than EVER NAT. But perhaps Drit is just disturbing and not hardcore. Hmmmm.
Nothing worth reporting has crossed my reading table lately. Read Gerlach's novella from Tasmaniac Publications. Thoroughly not my style. Maybe it is time to read Wrath White's YACCUB'S CURSE. Got a couple Rex Millers coming in the mail.
Waiting on HEADER II. Oh yeah!

I'm reading these two beauties right now:

Short story collection based on the Hellraiser mythos. Very good indeed, on the whole.

My first Tim Curran read. Loving this. I see some similarities with Ed's writing in some of the humour and writing style.

Three new Ed books on the way. Coven, Incubbi and Succubi.

Hey Ed. I absolutely loved TROLLEY 1852. The language kept me glued to the page. You have a real ability to write in that manner. I hope you decide to further that style. I love it!
I am reading something in a bit different style at the moment. SLOB by Rex Miller. This Rex guy does have a way with words also. The first couple pages are superbly crafted. The attention to prose drops after that but it looks like I am in for a hell of a ride!!

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading?

Most of the way through SLOB now. This Rex Miller had some life experience before writing this book. I really like his descriptions of the subconscious world of motivations. Rex shows a rare understanding of the power in being still and letting things come to you. The life of the mind....Aaaah
When I tell folks that 80% of small press horror bores the crap outta me this is one of the books I can point to and say, "this is how shit oughtta be". Take this and some Ed Lee, a potent quantity of Jim Thompson, some Phil Dick for a touch of the VALIS (Vast Array Living Intelligence System), maybe some Dr. John Lilly to tell you when you go too far ( PROGRAMMING AND METAPROGRAMMING IN THE HUMAN BIOCOMPUTER take some more LSD ya smuck). Then you might have something!!!
I gotta quit having that 3rd cup of coffee in the morning. Christ am I all worked up. Now I gotta go shitcan some $75 signed limiteds. Christ 3/4s of these totally sucks!!!

Just finished Edward Lee's chapbook THE BABY. The title story is so-so (sorry Ed) - horny dude in the wrong place at the right time ends up in a sticky situation - IMO better presented in two of my faves, EVER NAT and THE CYESOLAGNIAC.

Also included was a novella by David G Barnett. One of my fave Ed Lee stories is CREEKERS and David's touching novella AND THE LAKE SHALL CRY NO MORE is a cool backstory of the survival of the Creekers. Highly recommend.

Hi,

I am quite new to Edward Lee. After reading three of his Leisure titles I am currently about a third through The Bighead and loving it so far. After that I'll continue Bryan Smith's House of Blood which I interrupted temporarily to read Bighead first.

I also ordered the two new Lee collections and can't wait to read those.
