Looks like it's out then, Baker & Taylor have got my copies to ship next week, so next Thursday the Leisure paperback of this little beauty should be on my shelves getting picked off and absorbed into the local populace.
It's an outstanding book and if you didn't have enough ends for the Superb Limited Version from Necro, ya'll got no excuse not to snap up the cheaper Leisure Copy. Don't delay...pre-order today !!!
Its supposed to come out on Halloween....how cool and i'm looking forward to that one. the cover is oh so cool....If im not mistaken, Another edition of TERATOLOGIST comes out on that day too (albeit a bit more pricey) :p

Just finished it. Fucking great! And what a twist, man! I'm down for a sequel...
I know Ed has said he wanted this to be like a fun Sci-Fi Channel movie. Well, it's better than that. You know how sometimes you read the plot summary for one their movies on their website for something like SAVAGE PLANET and it'll say it's about these people travelling to a forrest planet inhabited by giant alien bears and you think "Holy fuck! That sounds awesome!" Then you watch the movie and it looks like something filmed in a guy's overgrown backyard with computer effects done by a ten year old using Flash Animation.
No such disappointment with SLITHER. It fully delivers on its promise and then some.
Wetbones, Jimbo, Jack: thanks as always for your support and kind words. SLITHER, I'm happy to say, has already gotten several cool reviews. It was a blast to write, and, yes, I do have a sequel in mind should my publisher want one...but it's about something much nastier than Trichinosis worms.

This is painful for me to discusss. Edward Lee is one of the best writers of brutal and unrelenting horror. He has a growing fan base and obviously had adoring fans, as indicated here.
I walked into my local bookstore to pick up the mass market paperback version of Slither. I have the limited edition, but you know, I don't want to bend its spine or anything. It is my precious.
(The first thing that I discovered when I walked into this bookstore that there was not a single Michael Laimo book. That's strange, methinks to myself. After all, he's a bestselling author and has a fan base as well. There is one book by him that I haven't read and I really wanted it without having to wait for it to be shipped. From now on I will stick to Shocklines and online sellers of horror because I discovered that not only was there no Michael Laimo book in the store, there was no Michael Laimo book in ANY store. Not in the entirety of Salt Lake City. There are only four of his books in the Salt Lake City public library system and they are scattered throughout the valley. Some are not even present. Every single V.C. Andrews book---don't get me started---but not a single Michael Laimo book!)
It has always been difficult to find Edward Lee at any bookstore in Salt Lake City. However, it was a new Mass Market release by Leisure books and despite the content (Richard Laymon being an example) they are usually proudly presented at the front of the store. This was not the case with Slither. It was tucked away. Hidden.
I became angry. First of all, it was the only Ed Lee title in stock and I soon found out the store had only ordered three copies.
Now, they may only expect to sell three copies but having Laimo and Lee on the shelves attracts new readers.
I'm still mad.
I loved Slither. I love Lee. I love Laimo.
I asked to order all the Laimo books and Lee books. They asked if they were for myself and I said, "Nay! They are for the people of the world!" Needless to say, in Salt Lake, don't expect to find anything but mainstream horror on the bookshelves. Sam Wellers is the only exception. Still, no Laimo. No Lee. But I asked them to carry the titles and they agreed.
You can find Sam Wellers online. They support horror and therefore I support them.
With the creation of I have attempted to promote the authors and publishers I love. It's a war. Especially in a city called "Zion."
Angry but with well-wishings to all my co-horror-fans,

All of my shelving rants aside...
Slither is one of Lee's best books. It's as daring as any Lee book and he knows a lot about things that slither. The back of the book calls it the trichinosis worm, but it is something far more terrifying than that and it takes someone like Ed Lee to bring it to life.
In one of my blogs[/a] and I believe on my website www.MagusPress.com I discuss Ed Lee's creation of characters. He gives them depth and there is no character without a backstory and unique personality. This has always been one of the pleasures of reading Lee's books. It's always glimmering with a vast array of characters, all of whom have lives of their own. While others would simply write off the guard as merely a guard, Lee will take that character and give him lust, life, and fire.
This book is also perfectly paced. In some respects it reminds me of Monstrosity (although the two have completely different plots both require knowledge in scientific fields) but where I feel Monstrosity was well, I think this book was paced exceptionally.
The problem with Monstrosty's pacing was that it didn't rev up until the very ending. There was horror, but the characters didn't really feel the effect until the too close to the end. However, with Slither we have a perfectly paced, well researched, thrilling read that I would expect new Ed Lee fans to devour.

I hear what your saying about front and back of store for Ed Lee. In the UK I'm lucky enough to run the horror/sci-fi section in a pretty big store for a big chain of bookstores. I'm constantly battling to run things my way. It makes a diffrence to have someone in charge of a section that actualy reads horror. At the moment I've increased sales by 115%. Quite a bit of that is because of Ed. Since I took over the section I've made it my mission to stock stuff you can't find anywhere else. Just a couple of days ago I sold my 15th copy of Portrait of a Psychopath as a young woman. It might not sound like alot of copies, but these are probably the only copies to be sold in a UK bookstore. I just wish that other stores followd my lead, but I've given up trying to push things, it's not worth the backlash, so I just stick to giving people the biggest range I can in my store. The view of horror titles seems to be warped, it almost seems head office would rather sell tons of Stephen King at half price than offer a wider selection at full price. Then again, the customer is also to blame as they seem stuck in a groove and it's pretty rare to find one that is actually looking for something new instead of the safe bet of Koontz, King and Rice. Still Davidusmontoyacus...at least you know there is someone over here that shares your views...here's to fighting the good fight.
