Post subject:  What's your thoughts?

In my collection I have a few HC numbered and a few HC PC....
i'm just looking for your thoughts on which copy you guys would rather collect...i know the numbered copies usually sell for more but i've noticed a lot say something like "this first edition is limited to 327 copies....300 of which this is numbered "PC""

so the book is still signed...it's taken from the same stack of numbered copies and put PC instead of a number on it....so really what's the difference....
or do i have all this wrong

From what I understand and I might have this totally wrong too PC is publisher copy and I thought these were additional copies made for authors/artists/publishers etc to the actual number count. Not written PC instead of a number.

Anyone else shed more light?

Yep. It's a publishers copy for the creators and promotions and the like.

yes...that i do know is true...i have a copy of Portrait of a Psychopath as a Young Woman that has PC on it instead of a number...i also scored the letter that Dave sent out with the book to whomever explaining the book briefly and the authors....it is sighed by both authors and there is a sticker placed over the spot where there would normally be a number saying "review copy"....sorry...i should have clarified in my post that i knew that PC meant Publishers Copy....
what i'm curious is what makes the two (PC copy and Numbered copy) different....lets say they make 300 numbered editions...grab 10 and mark as PC and number the rest...why would the PC copy be any less in value than the numbered...like my copy of Portrait it says review copy and was sent out for authors/publishers/critics to review and email Dave their thoughts (per what the letters states)...so that tells me that the PC or Review copy was sent out before the actual numbered copies where sold....sooooooo wouldn't that make it more valuable and more collectible....

I think it is down to the number being individual and PC there could be numerous copies. I am also not sure they make 300 and grab 10. I think they make 300 if that is the given number and 10extra for publishers. This is only a guess though as one of my books is the last of the numbers. If 300 copies have been made and I have #300. Unless they just miss random numbers.

well that makes more sense when you put it that way..i just know one of my books says something like "this first edition is limited to 327 copies...300 of which this is number PC" but it makes no mention of the other 27 copies....either way i've been swiping up a lot of the Hardcover Signed and PC edition books of his for really good deals...and whichever way you look at it...the bottom line is it's one more Lee book to add to the shelf...right now i'm waiting by the mail box for my numbered copy of Incubi and a PC copy of 1997 Shifters with Ketchum and GAK adding their pens....

I have several signed editions, many which say "limited to XYZ number of books" ... but I'm getting really annoyed with the ones I receive that AREN'T numbered. Give me a number, at least.

I dont really pay attention to numbers, PC, whatever. The way I figure it, it all looks the same on my shelf and a number, to me, does nothing more or less than a PC. Their all first editions signed by the author. Doesnt really get better than that. Does it? Besides, some of this shit is soo rare that why should i concern myself with a damn number or letter or whatever? I should just be happy I have a copy for christ sakes... No?

I have a Lettered copy of GAST, with an original Chadborne print, only its not lettered, its an Authors Copy: 8 of 12... Does that make it less good than an actual letter when i stare at it on the shelf, drooling?

I think not.

Like you say, some of the stuff is so rare, I am just happy to have a copy sitting on my shelf. My latest acquisition was a Lettered Ushers with the Cadaver. Only it isn't lettered it is PC. Still reads the same.

Post subject:  Re: What's your thoughts?

so this answers my question.....copy pasted from Ed Lee's website in the bibliography section

LIM = limited. A press run of an exact quantity of books, generally also signed. Typically a publisher has a few extra copies bound so that he has replacements for damaged ones. I have sent damaged books back to the publisher and they write the same number in another copy and send that one to me. Un-needed extra copies have “PC” (publisher’s copy) written on the number line and get handed out or sold as is seen fit by the publisher. This also happens to “LET” editions.

Yes, PC's are the publisher's way of providing copies to authors, artists, and reviewers so not to effect the number of lettered or numbered copies for sale. Sometimes you'll see an AC for Author Copy and DC for Defective Copy. Owners of these copies are perfectly within their rights to sell them, as they are privately owned. From an ethical standpoint publishers aren't supposed to sell PCs, and some have had the whistle blown on them for doing so, or sending far more signature sheets for the official run. 50 PCs sounds reasonable to me, but more seems shifty. Anyway, that's my understanding of it all. God bless all of you book buyers!
