Man, I'm guess I'm just getting old and cranky, but, boy, was this super hyped flick a turd and a half. Friends of mine in L.A. sang some praises for it (one guy said a money hadn't messed with his head like this in years); anyway, I rented it on Amazon the other night and was PISSED. The premise is this: 26 of the new wave of horror directors were each given five grand and then contracted to shoot a several minute short flik which portrays a given letter of the alphabet regarding some mode of death. "A" was okay--not earth shattering (no pun intended) but at least it threw me for a loop. But from then on, I was avalanched by one dud after another. Nothing entertaining, nothing profound, just a bunch of flash, elementary school potty humor, and lame jokes. Out of 26 letters of the alphabet, there were many 5 that were okay, but you would expect far more than just ok from this troupe of notorious directors. I guess someone pissed in my cornflakes but, holy CRAP--did this movie suck. It wasn't just boring, it was aggravating. I'm not a real negative kind of dude and I don't like trashing other people's work because I know they did their best, but this thing was so dull and frustrating I felt cheated out of two hours of life! Check it out, maybe it's just me but it gets a big thumbs down from me. CGI eyeballs popping out was great in The Mask 20 years ago, but it don't cut it now. And whoever filmed the letter G, I'd like to know what he did with the remaining $4950 of his budget. If the brains behind this idea do a sequel, they need to have the balls to give me a shot. For five grand, I'll do FIVE letters of the alphabet and will BLOW AWAY every thing in that first movie. JeeZ! All right, enough of my case of the ass. On to entertaining movies, last night I watched The Awakening and was delighted by new turns and visual profundity that the director did with the Edwardian Ghost theme. Check it out. Also saw Night of the Tentacles (I may have already mentioned this) but it was a low low budget comedy that was a ton of fun. Tomorrow, with any luck, I'll be going to see Evil Dead! I'll check this out when it gets on Netflix, but I'm adjusting my expectations. I didn't think the concept sounded very solid to begin with, but hopefully it'll be worth at least a look. Ryan H. |

I couldn't find Easter Casket on Amazon but I did get Bath Salt Zombies and Zombie A Hole. Tons of fun! Edward Lee |

That's a great idea! If I think of any random letter of the alphabet, I get a brainstorm! Edward Lee |

Yeah, I didn't care much for this movie either. I mean, great premise, but the quality of the films was just crap. Very few of the kills were creative. Just very disappointing. |
