Post subject:  HAPPY THANKSGIVING and other stuff

Friends: before I forget, here are some cool movies I’ve seen recently: The Caller (disturbing enough to beget nightmares,) Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (hilarious gorehouse horror comedy about 2 rednecks), The Last Exorcism (a fantastic found footage flick; I recall someone on the board recommending it–good call), Dead Snow (Norwegian flick about zombie Nazi’s, kind of slow but still good; I saw an ad for another one like it called Outpost which looked even better. They recall the old 70's Peter Cushing flick Shock Waves. Oh, and let’s not forget Jean Rollin’s Zombie Lake where the lake is actually a swimming pool and the movie’s most memorable feature are all those naked French girls sporting GIANT pubic hair and underarm hair), I probably mentioned Blood & Sex Nightmare which was a lousy story but outstanding in its proof that you can make a super low budget look good; and did I mention Mother’s Day Massacre? There was no Mother’s Day in it and it seemed scriptless but the acting was good and some of the content demented enough to warrant watching; Haunting of Winchester House (an old made for tv turd), The Farmhouse (unpleasant torture flick that I didn’t finish) and Dark Harvest (a shot-on-vhs attempt to adapt Lovecraft’s Lurking Fear (they get an E for Effort but that’s all.. Tonight I watch the Amityville Haunting which I believe someone recommended here as well.

My latest news - my mother’s house officially sold on Nov. 15 and closed with no problems. I left the day before and likely won’t have to return to MD for a long time (I’ll go back on May 13th, to inter my mother’s ashes but that’s it!) The long long road is now done, and thank all of you for you good wishes the whole way.

I’ve now begun to write in earnest again. My plan was to do Header 3 first, then novelize and modernize Haunted House and call it White House Gothic, but these are both back burnered now. (Header 3 is so meticulously outlined I can write it anytime, and the re-do of Haunted House can’t begin with an incumbent being reelected; hence I’ll have to wait for the NEXT presidential election to do that. The project I will do instead is a novella or novel that I think will be called The Pestilence That Walketh in Dark (if not that, maybe Hell-Hole but I think there’s a movie by that name recently), about a satanic serial killer/modern day warlock, and this will be the story on which my low budget movie will be based. I won’t relate details; I’ll just say that it will be a perfectly evil book with an interesting message. I’ve decided that I will work on the novel during the week and do my amateur version of pre-production on weekends (today I found some excellent stage bricks! and some of the workings of a device to make it appear that actors are vomiting in grand style.) It’s just gonna be so cool. I doubt that I’ll be able to start shooting until this summer or maybe beyond that (I still gotta learn how to do rudimentary video editing and how to use the damn camera. I know many of you must think me nuts to undertake such an endeavor when I essentially don’t have a clue about movie making. Well, that’s true but that’s the charm. This will either be a colossal flop and waste of money in which case I’ll learn my lesson; or purely and simply a low budget masterpiece in which the viewer will be treated to scenes and images of things they’ve never seen before. This is gonna be SO COOL!

As for our friend Tom Pic, I’ve heard no news which, all things considered, is GREAT news. Gotta run now, but thanks as always for your interest and support, and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Edward Lee
PS--It just occurred to me that I have A LOT to be thankful for!

Lee,

Congrats on the house-selling and aforementioned writing projects...and I don't think your nuts about the movie project, and cannot wait to see what you come up with! Have a great Thanksgiving! We're heading to the inlaws for Turkey Day...first year in a while that I'm not cooking, so I plan to gorge myself, watch football, etc etc. My mother-in-law is not know for her culinary prowess but I am hopeful dinner isn't a horror show! :x

Take care,
Chris

Happy Thanksgiving folks!

I'm thankful for my family, my guns, and of course of esteemed guest Ed Lee and the wonderfully, um, unique stories he gives us!

Hey Ed, whatever happened to the short story you mentioned: "The Bighead's Autopsy" ?????

I've been waiting to hear more on this one!

Hope Ed and everyone on here had a good turkey day! I almost watched Thankskilling 3 (the first movie to ever skip it's sequel) yesterday because I liked the first one "gobble, gobble motherfucker", but I wanted to know if anyone on here had seen it yet because the reviews on Amazon were sparse and mixed. Mostly puppets in this one. Is it good? I know it's not gonna be Meet the Feebles or Team America but 5 bucks is 5 bucks. Any input? Happy Holidays!

I almost rented it too until I saw the trailer. Doesn't look as good as the first one! But if you do see it, let us know how it is. I'll save it for next year!

Ed, The Caller huh? Gotta check it out!!! Outpost was a good Nazi Zombie flick, as well as "The Bunker"!!! Jean Rollin's went under the name "J.A. LAZER" for the making of Zombie Lake some trivia for ya!!! ;) I remember watching that when cable still played good movies not just on Friday and Saturday nights....but during the days USA Network would play "Day of the Dead" with not much editing...and when I saw Zombie Lake for the first time...a titty slipped on basic cable!!! I was like 10, so I was a happy camper!!! Zombie Lake is a classic...ridiculous movie, but reminds me of being a kid sneaking and watching horror movies!!! How about the Nazi Zombie flick "Shock Waves" lol. I own them both lol.
Remember USA Night Flight, and USA UP ALL NIGHT??? the 3 classic hosts, Commander USA (cheesy), Gilbert Godfrey (in his annoying voice...."now back toooo Night of the Comet on Usa up all night", then my masturbation babe for a few young nuts....Rhonda Shear!!! Music, T.V. and Movies really gone down the tubes!!! Books are the last great hope!!!

BTW finished a mint condition of "HEADER II" I got on ebay for a great price!!! Hardcover, signed and everything!!! I cant say how much I LOVED the book...i am an animal lover, and love how it ended with that scum bag Menduez getting what he needed....A QUADRUPLE HEADER!!!!

THANKS ED!!!! :x

Glad to hear that you're enthusiastic about your upcoming projects, and that things are returning to a level of normalcy. I'm really looking forward to the updates we'll see on the trials, tribulations, and (hopefully) fun of the film!

Post subject:  Re: HAPPY THANKSGIVING and other stuff

Thanks, all, for the good wishes and positive comments. My Thanksgiving was dull, but that's how I like 'em. Didn't do much, had a cold--probably caught it on the bus--and, not exactly reflecting the Thanksgiving spirit, I watched more crappy but fun horror movies: BLoody MAry, Serbian Film (again), some Troma flick called Bungalow of the Damned or some such. But with all this frivilous diversion, I did not forget that I have MUCH to be thankful for! Speaking of frivolous diversion, I've foolishly purchased more "props" for my upcoming "movie": some great (and not so great) masks, fake knives, a convincing fake hypodermic, and--or you ready?--a pair of fake breasts that look absolutely real. I also bought--forgive me if I mentioned this already!--a Canon Vixia M50 camcorder that was on sale for 400 bucks. It's PREPOSTEROUS how good the footage looks, and the low light capability is beyond belief. I'm screwing around with it now to learn the ins and outs. And I'd prevously bought a Panasonic camcorder for $250; it doesn't do low light well, but the close-up capability is incredible. I can hold the lens an inch away from a subject, and the autofocus works flawlessly. I know that if I maintian a production priority of simplicity, my movie will be cool. If I don't, it will be so overwhlemingly bad that it'll still be worth watching for the sheer kneeslapping laughs. I simply CAN'T WAIT to do this (and I already have two female volunteers who agreed with some enthusiasm to play naked victims of satanic murder and be COVERED in fake blood. You gotta love Florida women! They're real troopers! As for Bighead's Autopsy, I can guarantee that I'll write it, but I don't know when; probably not for a long while. I've had the outline stuffed in an envelope for ten years! Oh, Nazi films: I saw a trailer for one called Nazis at the Center of the Earth and it looked great in a pulpy kind of way. So I ordered it. Last night I rewatched Singapore Sling: what an incoherent masterpiece! Now I'm rewatching Gacy House (pretty good for a not so good flick!) and will also rewatch 100 Ghost Street which is dull as dishwater until the last ten minutes, and then it revs up bigtime. Oh, and did I already mention this:? I saw the HPL Historical Society's adaptation of Whisperer in Darkness, and it was OUTSTANDING. A lot of critics are trashing it because it wasn't 100 percent faithful to Lovecraft's novella, but these guys simply don't understand that Lovecraft in faithfulness isn't adaptable. The movie would've been 6 hours long. What these guys did was add some HPLish elements of their own in order to make the film more accessible to a viewership rather than a readership, and the final product was supremely well done. Gotta run, talk to you all again soon!

I've never been known for a profound power of decision: well, here's what's going on. Two nights ago, for some unbidden reason, a novel idea slammed into my head from out of nowhere. It's the weirdest thing; typically I NEVER start a book so spontaneously; I've got ten years' worth of detailed outlines for future books that I've been thinking about and adding too perpetually. But THIS idea? I postponed all current writing plans and started this new book an hour after I got the idea. It will be my next book project (tentative title: The Novel of the Two Black Boxes, influenced by Aurther Machen's title Novel of the Black Seal). All I can say is this book will be wonderful! I've never so completely capitulated to a writing project (its taking over my psyche!). And as for my movie The Pestilence that Walketh in Dark: I completely scrapped it and replaced it with a movie called--are you ready?--Cornface. It will be much more practical from a logistical standpoint to shoot, its center theme is similar to Two Black Boxes, and this movie will have things never seen before in a movie (unless I screw them up). I've already just begun shooting prelim stuff, and am close to having Cornface's face ready. This I'll work on on weekends and write the novel on weekdays. I'm so excited it's uncanny! More later! Back to writing now!

Best

PPS--last night I saw Outpost: Black Sun, and as far as Nazi zombie flicks go, it kicks butt. Also saw Apparition, which is good, and rewatched the uncut version of Fulci's The Beyond. The tarantula scene almost made me leave the room. I'm turning into a ig wussy!

Wow Ed, you sound inspired - that's good shit. I can't wait to read/see the new stuff, and hope you keep on the old as time and ideas permit.

(and I'm not going to stop irritating you on The Bighead's Autopsy!)

I also vote for The Bighead's Autopsy sooner than later.....for mostly, purely personal and selfish reasons!!

Cannot wait to see some footage of your flick, Lee....I know it's gonna kick ass!!

The Caller was one of my favorite horror movies of last year. I can't believe more people didn't talk about it. Definitely check it out, all of you who haven't!

Glad to hear about all these upcoming projects, man. Sounds like you're well on your way with that movie. Good luck!
