While I'm thinking of it, don't forget to watch Brian's GHOUL tomorrow night at 9 on Chiller. I loved the book and the previews looked fantastic!

As for me, I got back to FL last night, exhausted but got lots done. On a bad note, a lot of the antiques in the house that I thought were valuable...aren't! Mom's mink stole which was appraised at $3200 in the early 70s is worth about hundred bucks since the bottom fell out of the mink market ten years ago. The beautiful silver candlesticks contain NOT A SPECK of silver, and neither do the Eisenhower dollars that my father saved for some reason. Oh, and Grandpa's solid gold cufflinks are slag.

On a good note Grandpa's diamond stick pin has a REAL diamond in it, and the jewelry guy about crapped his pants when he saw it. And, most important of all, the realtor nearly made ME crap my pants when he told me how much he can sell the house for. My mother, thouh still having some serious dementia bouts, seems to be calming down and adjusting to a new med. Tomorrow I'm going to see a FL eldercare lawyer to find out about potential problems with moving my mother down here where he money would keep her out of a Medicaid nursing home much longer than if I keep her in MD.

So, in all, things are going pretty damn well considering! I'm gioing back to MD in about 10 days but I'll definitely be back on the board before then. Take carfe and be well!

Best,
Edward Lee

Hey Lee, thanks for keeping us posted. What a guy! Good luck with the lawyer today (let us know what you found out), the house, and your Mother. I know things are quite rough right now. Let us know if you need anything!

As for Keene's GHOUL. Well, I am on the fence with it. To be honest, I haven't read ANY Keene. And the reason is that just about everything I see from him in print has to do with zombies. I am NOT a zombie guy. I do, however, have the DVR set to record the movie tonight. On a side note, Sean Spillane did the soundtrack to Ketchum's THE WOMAN, and it was amazing! So I am anticipating hearing the music in the film because Spillane is at it again.

Good luck, Lee.

Lee, I echo pete's thoughts/sentiments wholeheartedly! Hell, we all do...

pete: While unfortunately I will be missing the Ghoul premiere due to work, I will dvr it and watch post-work. But I have to disagree with you...I've been a Keene fan for years and GHOUL is my favorite of all his novels, to date. His zombie novels (while very good and a unique twist thankfully in the whole zombie mythos) make up only a portion of all books he's published, and I'd argue also that some of his better novels are also DARK HOLLOW, GATHERING OF CROWS, URBAN GOTHIC (inspired by and written for Lee), just to name a few...and while Keene has his own style and brand of horror, I suppose, coming from a HUGE Lee fan like me, you should really give Keene a try, man!

GHOUL was a cool book. Keene's best, imo.
I did manage to read all the way through THE RISING, and I have read a few others writings of his. THE NEW FEAR was reaally cool. He writes about "real things" better than fiction!
But I do love GHOULS. Good book.

I'm not a huge fan of zombies, but Keene's Rising, COTD and Dead Sea were outstanding. I'm looking forward to seeing Ghoul, but I'm gonna DVR it so I can skip through all the fucking commercials :D

Does anyone know if this is coming out on dvd? I have an interest in seeing this movie, but I don't get the Chiller channel.

I have a few of Keene's novels, but they're still in my TBR box. My wife read some of his and liked them (Dark Hollow, Ghoul, COTD, DOTEOT, Urban Gothic,Ghost Walk).

Good luck, Lee!! Sounds like things are looking up! It would be great to have your mother closer to you!

Ghoul is my favorite book by Brian Keene, but the movie really strayed from the book. While I enjoyed the movie for what it was, the book is soooo much better. What did everyone else think?

Post subject:  Re: NOTE/BRIAN KEENE'S GHOUL

I love Brian's book and loved the movie. The acting was superb and the production excellent (I'm pretty sure it was produced by Andrew--van Houten? did I get the last name right?-- the same who produced Ketchum's Girl Next Door and The Woman. It was top notch all around, and congrats to Brian for getting the deal. Now, if I could just sell one of my books to Chiller (but now that I think of it, half the movie would be tiled out due to all the boob scenes!)

On another note, my trip to the lawyer's the other day almost caused me to keel over when he told me the details of asset protection. I'm going back to MD tomorrow (the 21st) to begin getting her house ready to sell. Knock on wood!

Take care!
Edward Lee
PS-but tonight I watch I Spit on Your Grave on Blu ray!

How did you enjoy I spit on your grave Lee? If it was the recent remake the guy who played the mentally challenged rapist was a guest investigator on an episode of ghost adventures I saw a couple of weeks ago... I'm not sure you needed that random information but there you go..

Peteboiler (Bob), you are one of my favorite people on this board but I have to agree with Ed and others. Brian has written WAY more non-zombie books than you think. Castaways is very Laymon. Urban Gothic has a Ed Lee vibe. Darkness on the Edge of Town is kinda like Stephen King's The Dome but completely streamlined. Brian is a great writer and like Ed, he is available to his fans and cares about them.

Man, now I feel like a schmuck LOL. I didn't intent to put Brian Keene down at all. I have never tried to read him, so I can't say that I don't like his writing. I just know from what I've heard that he has written many zombie novels. Now I realize he has much more to offer. This board has recommended me to read something of his, so I will give him a shot. What is THE Keene book to read?

Dark Hollow, if you ask me.

Post subject:  Re: NOTE/BRIAN KEENE'S GHOUL

pete, I still think GHOUL is his best, but certainly DARK HOLLOW (along with the sequel GHOST WALK) are great choices...CASTAWAYS and URBAN GOTHIC are fine reads, especially if you dig Laymon and Lee...and A GATHERING OF CROWS is fantastic (but read this after GHOST WALK) and DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN is well worth a read, too...and his slimmer Deadite releases (short story/novella collectins) are well-reviewed, along with his latest, THE CAGE.

I really did not like Ghost Walk.

Post subject:  Re: NOTE/BRIAN KEENE'S GHOUL

I love Keene's works.
Although, Dark Hollow and Ghost Walk are my very least faves. The Rising, City Of The Dead, and Dead Sea (my personal favorite)are fantastic Zombie novels, but if you aren't into that genre, try Ghoul, Urban Gothic (its a GREAT read!), Gathering Of Crows, Conqueror Worms, and Darkness On The Edge Of Town. He is a great writer.

Ed Lee is King!

Post subject:  Re: NOTE/BRIAN KEENE'S GHOUL

I think Brian Keene's best book so far was the recent Entombed. Sort of a sequel to Dead Sea but completely set with survivors in an underground bunker who are descending into insanity, murder and cannibalism! Loads of fun :D

Hell Bob, read one that no ones mentioned. Kill Whitey is like a horror/action book. Brian really has several different flavors. It depends on what you are in the mood for. Go to Amazon and read the user reviews. That's what I do with authors I haven't read. Best of luck! P.S. Ed, if you read this, I hope RG3 is our answer! It's official now!
