I'm going with A Serbian Film, The Human Centipede 2, and Salo. I also own all three on dvd. I'm a sick fuck like that.

The version I have from, Ordered from Amazon, is uncut. At least it contains more material than the one shown on VOD last year. Stuff that was cut from the VOD was Martins weird masturbation techniques and some centi-sex.

Serbian is also for me one of the most shocking movies, it was also one of the best I've ever seen. I Stand Alone was pretty messed up. Martyrs and Inside were awesome :D

I found a guinea pig box set online a couple years ago, put it away and forgot about it. I am glad you mentioned it, I will have to dig it out.
Since we are discussing movies, my passion is horror-comedy, anyone know of any good obscure ones? I have seen almost anything I can get my hands on.

Post subject:  Re: most shocking movies ever.

The most shocking movie I've ever seen, hands down, was Salo.

With most of the other supposedly shocking movies, I've found that reading so much about them online led to their over-hyping in the shock department, and henceforth were not that shocking to me when I actually saw them. I'm talking about Serbian Film, Martyrs, Inside, Human Centipede, and some others. (This is not to say that these movies weren't amazing films, just not particularly shocking). But I found that Salo still had the power to shock me even though I'd read so much about it.

Granted, I have yet to see Cannibal Holocaust, HC2, Guinea Pig, and some of the others mentioned here.

Second and third in the shock department for me are probably Passion of the Christ and The Exorcist. Though probably only because I saw The Exorcist at the age of ten and had no idea what I was getting myself into. Needless to say, it shocked the hell out of me. But it remains the scariest film I've ever seen, even after 25 or so viewings.

Hmm, I guess I'd have to put Exorcist high up on the list. I recall Salo bother me so much I couldn't finish it. I remember, too, the first time--probably 20 years ago, I watched D'Amato's Beyond the Dark and was absolutely revolted by the scene where Cinzia from Gates of Hell gets disemboweled; I was CONVINCED that they spliced in real autopsy footage. (Of course, they didn't, they were pig organs!) The original Texas Chainsaw still scares the crap out of me, too. Gotta include Psycho and, damn, I'm sure there're tons I'm forgetting and will only remember them after I sign off!

PS--I think I've mentioned this on the board before but I keep rewatching these Paranormal Activity movies and find some of the imagery and devices creepy enough to make me afraid to go to bed!

The Flower of Flesh and Blood from the Guinea Pig series was shocking the first time we saw it. The second time we laughed.

The Exorcist still gets to me as well after all these years. That's one of those movies that are Hallowed ground, IMO. It should never be remade. There is NOTHING they could do to enhance that movie.

horny house of horrors.

These films are not scary, just plain fun :)

Requiem for a Dream was great. Bug was also great for a low budget flick, pretty disturbing.
I came here to tell you all that I was thoroughly disturbed last night by Cannibal (2006). It's basically a character study of the two men involved in the infamous German internet cannibal story. It was slow to start and I almost shut it off. I'm so glad I didn't! Everyone watch it immediately! :D

I've got Cannibal (thought there were two versions?) on the hard drive along with most of the movies mentioned above. Usually just skip thru them as Mrs Frat isn't into them and my midgets, although loving zombie flicks, might be scarred for life (hey, they're 3 and 6, what do ya expect?!).

"Ass to ass."

What a scene!

A little off-topic, as this movie isn't shocking, but Cabin in the Woods was effing amazing! Not scary, but simply awesome. Y'all have to check that out, preferably before any of your dickhead friends ruin any of the twists for you. The last 20-30 minutes of that movie are like a horror movie lover's wet dream, and it's got a pleasantly Lovecraftian plot.

Nice mentions of Requiem for a Dream and Bug. I thoroughly enjoyed both of those, and Requiem is one of my favorite movies.

cannibal hollocaust is indeed another shocker.
Very grusome, nice backgroundstory.
Is it real or not ?
Still think it's a hoax, not entirely sure about the footage though.

Jus recently i saw Mother of Tears (great film with some very sick scenes and beautiful woman).

Alot of the old Italian Nazploitation films are pretty shocking. They're cheesy as hell, but you just wonder, how did they have the balls to make such trash. I just watched S.S Hell Camp today...They were electrifying girls by their vaginas, shooting them in the vaginas, raping, killing kids...All extremely cheesy and poorly done, but, theres a certain quality to these films that I like.

Oh and I have to agree with all of you about The Exorcist... That movie scared the shit out of me. I still remember when I was young and Damian Karras comes back into Regans room and sees HIS MOM sitting on the bed instead of Regan. That part messed me up good when I was a kid...Actually...It still does!!!

The Exorcist 3 was amazing too... Jeffrey Dahmer used to watch it when he killed fellas. Said he was obsessed by it and that it helped exemplify the evi fucked up life he was living between 1978-1991.

At first I sliced her throat, and watched her bleed...She bled a great deal. Its a problem I'm working on father, all this bleeding... K, now I'm freaked out

Horny House of Horrors? I'm gonna HAVE to see that! What a great title! Wasn't going to see Cabin in Woods but now I will cos of the endorsement here. I keep rewatching the remake of Night of the Demons; it's not disturbing or harrowing but still a lot of fun. There's a GREAT defacing, and a picture perfect reshoot of the famous lipstick-in-nipple scene from the original. I'm gonna have to start seeing some of these hardcore flix you all recommend. Later!

I saw a movie recently that was recommended by somebody (I actually thought it was this thread) that was just insane! Visitor Q by Takishi Miike. Wow!! I'm sure most people here have seen it, but I had no idea what it was about! Not really shocking, but it was crazy!! And pretty funny, too!

Off the top of my head. 1. Serbian Film 2. Last House on the Left 3. Chaos (ripoff of LHOTL) 4.The Devil's Rejects 5. The Exorcist. I know I've probably seen more graphic films but these ones actually made me feel dirty during certain scenes. P.S. Devil Horns to Staynes for mentioning Storm Warning! Just watched it again the other night. Hard to believe it's the same director that did Urban Legend and Valentine! The wife's defense "mechanism" when she knows she's about to be raped is pure genius and beyond brutal.

Post subject:  Re: most shocking movies ever.

Splatterhead: I agree with your list completely!! And yes, Chaos was brutal!!! I only watched it once, and while it wasn't a good movie, it was just sickening. You have to see the Directors Cut, though. I'm thinking of watching it again, since Sage Stallone died. He was a huge horror fan, and did an awesome job on some of his movie re-releases through Grindhouse Releasing.

Post subject:  Re: most shocking movies ever.

no particular order but

House on the Edge of the Park
Cannibal Holocaust
I Spit On Your Grave
Last House On The Left
New York Ripper

These have all dated somewhat I feel but like a few posts earlier said these films made me feel really grim at the time and have made a lasting impact on my mind.

There are lots of gross new films but some of the Old Video Nasties still are quite shocking.

Author:  AreYouMorbid [ Fri Aug 17, 2012 3:35 am ]
Post subject:  Re: most shocking movies ever.

I'd still rate Cannibal Holocaust way up there on the shock scale. For a more modern movie, definitely Martyrs. I was shocked by that one. It's not really that it's violent -- although it is -- just the ideas in it are so nihilistic. Remember the line in Videodrome about it being dangerous because it had a philosophy? That's Martyrs.

For all the taboo-shattering that A Serbian Film does, it was hard for me to take seriously because it seemed so determined to shock. I actually liked it best BEFORE it started trying to be so over the top.

I saw Salo many moons ago. Pretty disgusting stuff, although "shock" wasn't really what I felt. I wouldn't say that of Lars von Trier's Antichrist, either, but I think it deserves mention here. I quite like that one. And let's not leave out bleak fare like Maniac or that other cannibal classic Make Them Die Slowly/Cannibal Ferox. And the August Underground/Mordum movies, which did a pretty authentic "snuff" atmosphere.

Or Battle Royale. It makes me feel really old to see that and I Spit On Your Grave available in Wal-Mart, as that was unthinkable back when I first saw them, haha.

Scariest? Hmm. That doesn't happen for me very often, but the scenes that stand out in particular are from Lynch films like Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, and INLAND EMPIRE. And I love the atmosphere of psychological disturbance in Altman's Images and 3 Women.

Oh, I watched The Shout last year, and the scene where he demonstrates "the shout" is one of the most intense things I've seen. Loved that.
