After doing some extensive looking I kind of came to that same conclusion.

Though I did come to realize that during the early days of the Druids, there were similar practices taking place; and alot of women were in fact warriors as well.

Ys, that's pretty much what I ripped off and infused into my made-up Ur-Locs. It's a ton of fun inventing my own mythologies but o course no one's done that better than Lovecraft and I'm hapy to say that my very dirty sequel to "Haunter of the Dark" is kicking butt. Take care and be well!
