Hey I just read a bit on the Masterton message board about Ed Lee's Header movie. This sounds very ineteresting. Is this going to make it to theaters across the country or is it going to come to video soon? I'm a big fan of Lee's work and would love to get a chance to see it.

Indeed, I think the best we can hope for is a very limited theatrical release. Incidently, I just got back from the Fango Weekend of Horrors (which was a blast) and we had a panel on Header after showing some clips and the trailer. The panel was producer Mike Anthony, director Archie, lead actor Jake Suffian, Jack Ketchum, and me. It was a lot of fun. The next day I spent at the producer's house to do an author's commentary for the DVD. They're in the process of searching for a distributor and are being very cautious and not rushing and taking the first deal offered (they've actually turned down a few thus far.) I suspect it'll be several more months before they land one and though I'm impatient for obvious reasons I'm ctually glad they're taking their time to find Header the best home they can. I just can't wait for everyone to be able to see it 'cos it reallyis a cool movie.

Wetbones: I agree, commentaries on DVDs are great. Haven't seen the Lansdale yet but have it on my rental list. My all-time fave commentary--and go ahead and laugh--is from Andy Milligan's GHASTLY ONES, where BASKET CASE director Frank Hennenlotter and actor Hal Borske jack their jaws about the flick and horror in general. It's a blast!

I like commentaries but only for certain films. For example I'm not all that interested in commentaries for Hollywood blockbusters. Usually you've heard everything about the making by the time the film comes out, or at least I do since I like to browse movie news websites. The ones I love are those for flicks from the 70ies and 80ies that never got all that much coverage in those years before the internet. There are some really great stories to be found/heard in those that would be lost and forgotten otherwise. Sometimes the commentary ends up being much more interesting than the film itself! Some foreign films have great commentaries too but they don't usually get ported over for the US release. One of my all time favorites is the Takashi Miike (director) and Hideo Yamamoto (writer of the original comic) commentary on ICHI THE KILLER in which Miike relates how an actor supposedly jerked off so much on set that he came up with the idea to use the cum in the title sequence; or that he told a stuntman to beat up an actress for real because she was annoying him. He did a great commentary for FUDOH as well, relating that his assistant director had to act as a butt-double for the scene where fireworks are shot from a poor guy's asshole. Totally worth the effort to read along in a subtitled commentary in my opinion.
