Excellent, and very true first blog post! In fact, it's pretty similar to my forthcoming novel I'm self-publishing about a struggling writer who promotes himself on every horror message board ever conceived, and the chaos that ensues when angry message board posters cry, "Off with his head!" It's a wild, over-the-top book with plenty of thrills and chills! Okay, so I made all that up. But it just felt so right... |

That was a great blog! And nothing but the truth in it. There's a time and a place for the self-promotion, and someone else's thread isn't it. I can't wait to read future installments. |

First off, if I may, your link is for your first blog. This link will take you to the newest one. http://blog.apexbookcompany.com/2012/06 ... my-lawn-2/ This is something we've discussed here from time to time, especially with Rob Dunbar. Personally, I think there is a place for both ends of the spectrum--the pulpy novels and movies that are pure entertainment and the thought-provoking works the masses tend to ignore. My mood really dictates my reading/watching habits. There are times I want to be purely entertained and I know exactly who to read for this. Then there are times when I want something more and I know who to read at that time. What I really enjoy is finding something that you think you're reading for one thing but finding something totally different in it. I think the best example of that is The Girl In The Glider by Brian Keene. I usually know what I'm getting when I read something of Brian's, but this one had an emotional depth to it that made it stand out from his other work. That's what I think we all try to look for in this genre. For every King or Koontz book we read, let's find a Malfi or Gifune or Braunbeck and shout from the rooftops about their work, too. Everyone is better when they expand their reading (and watching) habits. Man, I hope that made sense. |
