Shad, not sure if someone's mentioned this already - the Absolute Write Forums can sometimes bring to light what's happening on the publishing front, in terms of who's legit and who isn't (although sometimes it devolves into pure hearsay). Sometimes it's a good thing just to hang out in communities, read blogs etc that specialize in a particular area of publishing, find someone who seems to know what they're talking about, and go from there. I hung out in the Horror Community for quite a bit before I started getting published, so when the time came, I knew a lot of the whos, the what-to-expects and the wheres. Pinterest might be an option, too. Most of the pics link back to their source sites and you can dig up info that way. Also, look for authors who are already successful at putting out children's books. A lot of authors blog, and you can get some great inspiration and insight into what goes on. If your sister can find a children's book equivalent of Brian Keene, she'd be off to a good start. I wish her every success! |

I wrote a children's book once, the editor still sends me death threats. My advice. Don't drink. Don't spend endless hours at the keyboard, hungover, thinking you should have been a pastry chef. Beware of editors who hate your writing. They will stalk you and kill you. I'm not talking about myself.  Good luck. |

Fell for a bad prank this weekend; took it way too seriously; became very angry; lost my temper; not proud. Went to a show; sold a couple of books; met some interesting folks; wrestled with how to best promote my e-versions at events such as these. Lots of peaks and troughs. A bit strung out, this morning.

I'm doing Weight Watchers. They had a buy 2 months get the third free. I figured out I had nothing to lose (Haha). I've been very happy with it. |
