Subterranean Press will be publishing Robert McCammon's Mister Slaughter, the third book in the Matthew Corbett series (which includes Speaks the Nightbird and The Queen of Bedlam). Both signed limited and trade hardcover editions are planned for a fall release. More details will be available soon.

Sometime next year, Subterranean will also be publishing signed limited editions of McCammon's classics Stinger and The Wolf's Hour.

Video and audio of McCammon reading a chapter from Mister Slaughter can be found .

I read Speaks the Nightbird and thought it was amazing. Queen of Bedlam...not so much. Maybe I'll try it out again, whatwith Mister Slaughter coming out.
And Boy's Life is one of the greatest novels ever written. No argument.

It's not horror, but it is excellent. I've got Queen of Bedlam on my nightstand, been there for almost over a year now, its so big its daunting.

Ha! You're right of course, I forgot the scene where the old guy is screwing his horse. The horror, the horror! Ha!

You are correct, it's very creepy, but as I remember it, and in my opinion, I wouldn't have considered it a horror novel. But it is still one helleva read and I would recommend it to any horror fan.

Speaks the Nightbird is an excellent read. I always enjoyed McCammon as a kid and when I saw that he had a new novel printed I jumped at it. Well worth getting. And yes, it is not horror, but there are enough dark elements to please.

Boy's life was a classic. A must read in the coming of age genre, which I would say stands along such other classic coming of age stories like Something Wicked This way Comes (Bradbury), Summer of Night (Simmons), and The Travelling Vampire Show (Laymon).

Man, I read that one three times since its been released. It's funny how some people can think a book is a masterpiece and others a dud.

I've read some reviews where people state that they thought Swan Song was as killer as The Stand.

Oh John, it might sound corny, but I feel so bad for you. You couldn't finish The Stand or Imajica? Those two are some of the best books I've ever read.

To be captured by a novel and whisked away to another world like these two books did for me is a wonderful, and kinda rare thing, and to think that others didn't have the same thing happen to them while reading these novels is dissapointing. It's just a good feeling when others share the same feelings for a book as you do, and a let down when they don't.

I'll probably go back to Imagica since I've a lot of time for Clive Barker's stuff.

Here's the description of MISTER SLAUGHTER from their site:

Mister Slaughter
By Robert McCammon
(preorder--to be published in late 2009/early 2010)

Dust jacket and interior illustrations by Vincent Chong

Trade: $24.95
Limited: $125
Lettered: $500

Length: 400 pages (tentative)

The world of Colonial America comes vibrantly to life in this masterful new historical thriller by Robert McCammon. The latest entry in the popular Matthew Corbett series, which began with Speaks the Nightbird and continued in The Queen of Bedlam, Mister Slaughter opens in the emerging metropolis of New York City in 1702, and proceeds to take both Matthew and the reader on an unforgettable journey of horror, violence, and personal discovery.

The journey begins when Matthew, now an apprentice problem solver for the London-based Herrald Agency, accepts an unusual and hazardous commission. Together with his colleague, Hudson Greathouse, he agrees to escort the notorious mass murderer Tyranthus Slaughter from an asylum outside Philadelphia to the docks of New York. Along the way, Slaughter makes his captors a surprising--and extremely tempting--offer. Their response to this offer will alter the course of the novel, setting in motion a series of astonishing, ultimately catastrophic events.

Mister Slaughter is at once a classic portrait of an archetypal serial killer and an exquisitely detailed account of a fledgling nation still in the process of inventing itself. Suspenseful, illuminating, never less than compulsively readable, it is, by any measure, an extraordinary achievement, the largest accomplishment to date from one of our most gifted--and necessary--writers.

The Subterranean Press edition of Mister Slaughter is the only version currently under contract. It will be available in three unique editions.

Trade: Fully cloth bound hardcover

Limited: 274 numbered copies, fully bound in leather, signed by Robert
McCammon, and housed in a custom slipcase

Lettered: 26 lavishly bound copies, signed, housed in a custom
traycase

Robert McCammon's rare novella (which only appeared in Night Visions IV and its paperback release, Hardshell) is now available on . "Best Friends" was nominated for the 1988 World Fantasy Award for Best Novella. Those of you who have missed McCammon's horror work should definitely check this out, if you haven't read it (or even if you have). This is the closest thing to "splatterpunk" that McCammon ever did.

... and the title Boy's Life. :v

I'm sorry Ghosthunter, but I'm beginning to get a bit burned out on the series. I would prefer something much more like The Terror.

How can you be burned out after just two books? Of course, they were big books. I, for one, have loved them and hope that he's able to do all ten that he plans....

You two may be happy to know that his next book is a contemporary novel....

I know I should be allowing him the freedom that he needs for his writing, but I really wish that he would go back to what he does best: writing horror. Man, he wrote some amazing stuff back in the day. My only hope is for him to let these series out of his chest, and hope that he comes back home where he is dearly missed.

When it comes to a brilliant writer like Robert McCammon, I'm just happy and thankful that the guy is writing at all.

I became a fan of his after he took that long break from his writing; if that happened now that I'm reading him, it would seriously depress the hell out of me.

I consider Boy's Life worthy of being on my list of books that I think are the best ever written. A writer like that needs to be letting his readers see the amazing stories he's creating.

Wolf's Hour is my all time favorite werewolf novel. I couldn't put that one down and almost got fired from my job because I was trying to finish it while at work. I was down to the last few chapters and hid the book on my lap while I was supposed to be working.

I've read it several times since then and, IMHO, it has lost none of its impact.
