Dominion: Greg Gifune, The Next Big Name In Horror!
I'm in the middle of this one (thanks again my friend), and after only reading two other of his novels I am convinced that Greg is going to be so freaking huge.
This book is so atmospheric you can't help but compare him to Pic. I read one scene last night where this dead guys wife shows up on his computer screen and man, the way he wrote it scared the shit out of me!
I think it was Rob Dunbar who said Gifune is a genius, and man, I have to agree with that! His new one should be on the way, and I can't wait to get into that one too.

I've read a lot of interviews where other authors have stated that they think Greg is a genius. And I didn't have a hard time believing it after I read The Bleeding Season.
Any day Children of Chaos will arrive in my mailbox, and I can tell you that's one that isn't going on any damned tbr pile. I can't wait to read it.
Even his earlier stuff, like Drago Descending, was excellent.
Definitely another author where you wonder why he isn't getting more attention. Hell, if I thought it would help, I'd staple flyers to every telephone pole in my city telling people to read him. The sad thing about that is, that most people would say, "Reading? What's that? Is it on TV?"
Don't even get me started, man!

DAMN!!!! I also just received Children of Chaos from Delirium's Bitchin' Book Club, and I plan on staying up all night to read as much of it as I can before I pass out from lack of sleep.
Hellolost, you asked what else to read by Greg 'The High Priest of Horror' Gifune? Every single thing he has written would be my answer.
The Bleeding Season was brilliant, Drago Descending was excellent, and I have more of his other masterpieces on the way. I haven't ordered Dominion yet, but have Saying Uncle and Deep Night on the way.
Gifune's words will strap you to the bed and leave scars that will make you weep in the morning.

Saving Uncle was a remarkable book. It just blew me away with its depths of emotion. The subject matter bothers the hell out of me to start with, but Gifune did a great job of not exploiting the act itself but its ramifications.
The Bleeding Season was also one hell of a good read. His descriptive powers and use of atmosphere in that book were brilliant. That woman in the bathtub and the whole ending of that book pop right into my mind when ever I read the title of it somewhere.
Dominion so far is more of a quiet horror (so far). Very powerfull due to its laying bare the soul of the protangonist. You can feel the poor guys grief and his anquish as he becomes more and more confused. And when his dead wife pops up, you're just as scared as he is. I hope to finish it tonight and I'm expecting all hell to break lose in the end.

Well, I named Steve Vernon The Mighty Vernon, Gord Rollo The Mad Canadian, Tom Piccirilli The Pic Man, Gary A. Braunbeck The God of Horror, and now Greg F. Gifune Horror's High Priest. (I know this conjurs images of Greg sporting a creepy black cloak, standing with blazing black candles on each side of him, and some strange altar of sacrifice in there somewhere, but hey, the guy's writing is amazing.)
So far, Children of Chaos is making me feel like Greg's words are attacking my brain with sharp spears dipped in cyanide. I'll be surprised if I read any negative reviews on this one.
If The Bleeding Season didn't make you want to own all of this man's writing, then Children of Chaos definitely will.
Trust me.
(Hey, Tt, when you read Children of Chaos, your eyeballs will rip themselves from their roots and fly around the room like weird orbs on speed-the writing is that good.)

...and I'll add another thing...Gifune had me quessing wrongly right up untill the end. He makes you think you know where he's going in Dominion...but nope...he winds up shocking the hell out you. You gotta take your time with this one guys.
...and one more thing....he made me feel so guilty being a man...
...O.K....one more thing and thats it....thank God I hate chatrooms and stay away from them.
I'm having a hard time getting this book out of my head.
The thing that I liked most is that when you thought Greg was taking the story in a certain direction, BAM!, he took a hard left turn and you're going in a different direction. It was a story that always kept you guessing.

I'll be finishing Dominion tonight, and man what a ride.
I think out of all the Gifune books I've read, Children of Chaos and Dominion are the two I'd most like to see made into movies. The visuals that Greg writes into your mind in these are unbelievable, and if they were done right, man what kick-ass movies they would make.
I think I'm going to need a half day of mental rest before I start Deep Night and Night Work. And I can't even imagine what Judas Goat is going to do to my mind when I order that one.

My final thought on Dominion has to be, that I'll never sit down in front of my laptop ever again without thinking of this story.
There's no point in mentioning the amazing job Greg did of writing it, that's always to be expected when you read a Gifune novel. But the one thing that really stuck out to me, was the fact that this was a novel written in perfect sinc with the times we're living in right now. Computers have advanced to the point of almost taking over, and I think this was another point Greg was trying make within the story.
Excellent novel that had my brain spinning towards the end; man, what a ride the last hundred pages of this book gives you.
And no, I don't think I'll be going anywhere near a chatroom any time soon ...
