Can You Name Two Albums That Changed Your Life?
Cosmo’s Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival. This was the first album I ever bought. The swamp feel of the melodies, the guttural tone of the vocals, the biting and allegorical lyrics protesting the Vietnam war, and the long instrumental jams floored me the first time I heard them. I spent every evening for a month playing this l.p. on an old record player with a quarter taped to the needle to the point where I wore it out and had to buy another copy. It made me realize that there was more to the world of music besides poppy sing along songs.
Harvest by Neil Young. I was visiting a friend in college and was pretty drunk by the end of the evening. I remember sitting down in a hallway in the dorm with my back against the wall and my feet splayed out and trying to focus. Then someone put this album on in one of the rooms, it was Harvest, and I was spellbound by it. I listened to every song in absolute awe and went out and purchased it the next day. It made me a fan ever since. The songs were gut wrenching, honest, and had vocals on them that could almost make you cry they were so heartfelt. To this day I still travel back in time to when I first heard this whenever Heart Of Gold comes on the radio.
And my favorite..... Day after day, love turns grey Like the skin of a dying man. Night after night, we pretend its all right But I have grown older and You have grown colder and Nothing is very much fun any more. And I can feel one of my turns coming on. I feel cold as a razor blade, Tight as a tourniquet, Dry as a funeral drum.
Run to the bedroom, In the suitcase on the left You'll find my favorite axe. Don't look so frightened This is just a passing phase, One of my bad days. Would you like to watch T.V.? Or get between the sheets? Or contemplate the silent freeway? Would you like something to eat? Would you like to learn to fly? Would'ya? Would you like to see me try?
Would you like to call the cops? Do you think it's time I stopped? Why are you running away?
Hell no TT! I plan on going out after living one hell of a good life filled with ups and downs and friendships. Hopefully at a ripe old age but before I need to be put in diapers and fed by someone else.
Naming just two albums would be impossible. After living four decades, so much of my life has revolved around its own soundtract. I'll break the rules here and list songs that have been more inspirational.... Kansas - Dust in the Wind. Nothing resonates a chord more than the concept of immortality Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell. The verse "the world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams" spoke volumes about a disenfranchised youth. Heck, it was my quote in my HS yearbook Rush - Nobody's Hero. This songs cries out to all of us that just because someone is not famous, that does not ean that they are not a great person who has touched others lives. Iron Maiden -Number of the Beast. I saw that music can channel something negative and come out with a positive. Scary freaking tune that hit me as I was getting into all things that go bump in the night. Made we want to live horror, to grab it by the jugular. Alice Cooper - Hey Stoopid. Listen to the tune man. For all of us who lived the hard party for a little too long, this comical tune confronted booze and drugs dead on. Pink Floyd -Wish You Were Here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl...year after year. Rolling Stones -As tears go by. Watching my daughter play, it reminds me of being a kid and of days that we can never return to. Always chokes me up...just a bit.

I don't know about life-changing but albums from my youth that REALLY struck a chord with me would probably be The Doors Greatest Hits, Rio by Duran Duran, U2's Under a Bloodred Sky, and Van Halen's self-titled debut album. Just to name a few...
Oh...and I am man enough to admit when I was a kid a bunch of us listened to the BeeGee's Saturday Night Fever album...hey, it was pretty damn popular way back then...ahem...

1. Led Zeppelin I -Their first album. I heard Jimmy Page's guitar riffs and my mind finally experienced true magic.
2. The Beatles Rubber Soul - The song In My Life made me realize that John Lennon was a musical genius. The entire album is testament to musical perfection. ______________________________________________________ Here's some more:
Jimi Hendrix Are You Experienced: If this one didn't change your life, then check for a pulse-you could be dead.
Black Sabbath's first album, which said, "Hey crappy world, this is our new invention called Metal!"
Aerosmith Rocks: this one took rock in the 70's and gave it that heavier edge that later bands like Guns N' Roses would run with years later.
Deep Purple Machine Head: Ritchie Blackmore was another underrated guitar genius. This guy's guitar playing was Bach meets hard-edged rock n' roll.
Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here: a tribute to the brainchild of Floyd, the late Syd Barrett. The songs on this one make you feel like you're floating through another dimension.

Really? There hasn't been one album that might have made your life a little more happier or enjoyable? One that may have made you and your buddies bond a bit more than you might have?
The change doesn't have to be profound. But in my case, as I bet in others, a certain album made me see things differently or pushed me into a different direction socially. Or maybe even made you feel better about yourself or your perspective on things as it did Hello.
I remember two Neil Young albums that came out back to back called On The Beach and Tonights The Night. They just might be two of the most depressing albums every recorded. I had broken up with a girlfriend when I was younger and was extremely depressed. These albums allowed me to dig deep into myself, wallow in my depression, and get it out of me. They made me feel less alone. Like Undead said, some of our lives are one big soundtrack.

For me it would be Public Enemy's It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. I used to be heavily into rap and this album remains my favourite of all time. Basically this album inspired me to do a lot of reading and researching on the topics they were talking about and the names of historical figures they mentioned.
Another rap album would be Ice Cube's Amerikkka's Most Wanted. I can still remember where I was when I first heard that album. The first song starts hits you with a ton of sonic bricks and remains pretty relentless for the first 12 or so minutes of the album. It was and remains the ultimate fusion of east and west coast hip hop.
As I got older I fell out of love with rap. Intellectual groups like Public Enemy fell out of favour and it became more "bling" oriented. There was a period where I didn't listen to much music. One day I was listening to the Beatles 1 album and I decided to get the individual albums which of course knocked me on my ass. I bought the Lennon solo albums and most of the early solo McCartney's as well. Nowadays, 80% of what I listen to is Beatles-related.

Lennon Legend is a excellent album. But the older Mother version where he is ripping his heart out of his chest and laying it bare... oh man... (From John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band album) sends chills down my spine. God like
