My copies arrived at B&N today. I hope to start The Woods are Dark soon (it's much shorter than I thought it would be), once I finish the books I'm currently reading. Both novels look very good.

I got my Leisure order and two new Bad Moon arc's. I'm still hip-deep in research for my third ghost story collection, but I'm dying to get reading a few of these.

My B&N had these when I went in today, but I raised a small fuss about The Woods Are Dark.
Tower Hill was not only on the shelf, it was also on the new release kiosk/stand-thingee towards the front of the store. But no Laymon. So I ask at the info desk. The lady says that they have 24 copies, but there was something about when they could put it out, blah blah blah, and I innocently asked, "Then why is Tower Hill out on the shelf? Wouldn't it have the same rule?" She went to the back and got me a copy.

I'm finding that aside from not only being easy on the eyes, Miss Pinborough is a very good writer. So far, Tower Hill, is good storytelling with smooth prose.
I can always tell fifty pages in to any writer I'm reading for the first time, if I'm going to invest in the rest of he/or she's novels; I plan on grabbing up the rest of what Sarah Pinborough has to offer.
I'll post a full review of my thoughts on Tower Hill when I've finished it.
Good read so far:

Laymon is usually sick fun and I'm curious about how well the restored text reads even though I've never read the original. It's on my shopping list.
I've liked Pinborough's other books, more or less, but three out of four used the "Save the Child from Malevolent Entities" plot device à la Poltergeist and one that didn't had used an unbelievable method for destroying the monsters, so I kind of on the fence with her next book.

Well, in this one its the world that needs saving Monty, not a child, and it has more of a Masterton or Little feel in its plotting, though you could say it has echo's of Poltergeist. But that's what I liked about it. I love crazy supernatural stories and this one fit the bill.
What I did have a problem with was that the novel seems like it was really overwritten. Idea's and past scenes seemed to be rehashed way too much and the thought process of some of the characters seemed to be too mature for their ages. But after the first 50 or so pages I got over it and enjoyed the story.
Sarah's moving to the North Carolina area. Which places her much closer to me. So I can finally take her to that dinner I promised her. Plus she can autograph the two books that have come out since WHC 07.
I know that she was married at one point a few years back. But she is still a school teacher. Haven't seen or heard anything from her in a while. Be nice to take her out to dinner, but with the price of gas...

I finished Tower Hill a few nights back and while it didn't blow me away, I found Sarah Pinborough's writing to be good enough that I defintely plan on grabbing Breeding Ground soon.
The story of Tower Hill seemed to be too slow for me. I thought the two villians were not weird or creepy enough. There seemed to be too much going on with the students and not enough scary scenes with the priest and his sidekick.
The supernatural element was tied together pretty nice towards the end, but I felt it needed more creepy scenes with the zombie townsfolk, and in more detail.
Not a bad book at all, I mean, I read it all the way through. Just didn't grab me by the throat the way a really good supernatural thriller does.
I still consider Miss Pinborough to be a good writer and plan on reading more of her work.

The Woods Are Dark flew by, and I found myself enjoying it more than Cuts.
Tower Hill was enjoyable for the most part. The one thing I didn't like about it was Sarah created this small town, and then focuses on Liz and Steve for the most part. More scenes with the bad guys would have been nice, but even nicer would have been small slices of life of some of the townspeople. She tried a couple of times, and then kind of abandoned it after the scene with Mabel baking the muffins. Despite that, I still enjoyed it, and the last 70 pages or so really picked the story up and ran with it.
OK, now that I've read The Woods Are Dark, I find myself wondering what was different from the original text. Was it just the extraction of the Lander Dills chapters? Or where there other plot\story changes?
As I whole, I really liked it, but sometimes thought the pace was too fast and could have been slowed down a bit. It reminded me a bit of Off Season on speed. I do just love cannibal stories.
