I couldn't get past the first few chapters, and I usually enjoy Koontz.

I'm curious myself. Is this a suspense novel? Or something lighter? |

It's a suspense novel with slight supernatural overtones. The story centers on a woman who saves dogs from abusive homes. She and her boyfriend wind up being harrassed, threatened, and attacked by an unknown party for unknown reasons and eventually have to go on the run, taking a golden retriever with them that seems highly intelligent, protective, and perhaps a little extra-gifted in an angelic way. Everyone pretty much knows this, but Dean is a big lover of golden retrievers and has worked closely with Canine Companions for years. His own beloved golden named Trixie fell ill and died while he was writing the book and this is something of an ode to her and the bond people can fashion with their dogs. |
